Are you a fan of outdoor sports? If yes, a trip to Zagreb would surely appeal to your penchant for some thrill and excitements during an eagerly-anticipated holiday. The following discourse would give you a brief overview of the most popular outdoor sports destinations in the city:
i. Medvednica Mountains – This relatively steep cliff is probably the best place in the country, for rock-climbing and hiking trips. If you have a private car at your disposal, you will need about thirty minutes to commute from any apartment or city center hostel in Zagreb near the Ban Jelacic Square, to Medvednica. Trekking to the Sljeme point is a mighty fulfilling (although slightly tiring!) accomplishment. Do not miss out on the thrilling chairlift ride here either.
ii. SRC Salata – For enjoying a hearty round of soccer or basketball with your companions or the locals, this is a place you can consider visiting. You will get trams and trains to travel from your daily rent apartment Zagreb, to SRC Salata. There is a nice clubhouse facility over here as well, where you can participate ...
... in a wide range of indoor games.
iii. Jarun Complex – Have a thing for roller skating? Take a tram from the terminal nearest to your rental apartments in Zagreb, and get down at the Jarun station – from where this well-stacked recreational center is within walking distance. The entire skating track is nearly 7 km in length, and it quite beautifully circumvents the serene Jarun Lake. You need not pay any entrance fee here either!
iv. Arena Zagreb – Unless you are a known sports personality, you are unlikely to get the chance of taking part in the basketball and/or handball games that are regularly held here. However, to get a first-hand feel of the buzz and excitement at this place during any live sporting event, commuting from your rooms in Zagreb to over here would be a nice idea. Hockey matches are hosted at Arena Zagreb too.
v. Indoor Climbing Center – From any residential apartment or hotel in Zagreb near the main city square, this imaginatively decorated and carefully maintained center is within a small distance. A nominal charge has to be paid, for hiring the climbing shoes and other related accessories at this place. The climbing walls at the center are, understandably, not too tall – but there are challenging makeshift peaks. It also has all the requisite safety provisions.
vi. Bundek Recreational Park – If you are a fan of fishing, a visit to this chic, modernized sport arena would be in order. You can swim a bit as well, and enjoy nice boat-rides. There are designated zones for skating and cycling as well. For those who travel by rental cars from their accommodation in Zagreb to Bundek, spacious parking spaces are available. There are two nicely maintained water bodies at this increasingly popular recreational park.
vii. The banks of Jarun Lake – Apart from the manifold attractions of the Jarun sports complex, you can participate in games of beach volleyball – right near the banks of the lake. Traveling to the place from your Zagreb apartments would be a clinch, particularly if you are staying near any of the local tram stations. If you are not quite in the mood for playing yourself, watch the ladies who have the time of their lives playing beach volleyball here. A sight for sore eyes!
viii. The City Center Cycling Paths – You can take a sports cycle on rent during your holiday, and indulge in some fun-filled cycling along the pink-colored paths that run across the main city center in Zagreb. The paths are one-way, which practically rules out chances of accidents. There are clearly marked return paths as well, for getting back to your luxury hotel or hostel in Zagreb.
At downtown Zagreb, you have the chance to do some fun-filled biking. There are several grand football stadiums in the city – and if you are lucky enough, you might get the opportunity to watch a live match at any of them. The connection between Zagreb and exciting sporting activities has always been a strong one – and a trip to these places would make your holiday just that bit more action-packed and enjoyable!
