Dental Clinic Specialties You Should Be Aware Of

With all the possible problems we can encounter in a daily basis, the least of our concerns are our teeth. However, for preparation’s sake, it is advisable to look out for dental services that you might need in the future. You can ask for information in your dental clinic. You can also search the Internet for further readings. You can have this knowledge in stock and refer to it when the need for it arises. Who knows? Perhaps a friend of yours encounters a dental problem that can be treated by the said services. You might even need one or two of them in the future.

Endodontics

Endodontics deals with the insides of the tooth. The common terms for this are root canal treatment and root canal therapy, among others. This majorly involves the tooth’s dental pulp. By now, you must already be aware that tooth pain has other causes besides cavities. It can also be caused by an inflammation or infection of the tooth’s dental pulp. Root canal therapy is pretty common in the world of dentistry though, so your dentist might have mentioned or made references to endodontics a few times before. If your dentist does not specialize in this, he or she may refer you to a registered endodontist.

Oral and maxillofacial pathology

Basically, oral and maxillofacial pathology is a dental disease involving the mouth and the jaw. Other dental practitioners use the terms mouth disease and oral pathology—among others. This kind of specialty is said to be under both dentistry and pathology. Oral and maxillofacial pathology identifies and studies diseases that affect the oral and maxillofacial areas of the face. That pain in your upper jaw may be more than just a tension in the facial muscles. Over-the-counter drugs do not always do the trick. A meeting with a medical practitioner is always advised when pain outside of the ordinary is experienced.

Prosthetic dentistry
I believe most people are familiar with this one—albeit unaware of its formal name. To put in ordinary terms, prosthetic dentistry (also known as dental prosthetics and prosthodontics) deals with crooked teeth and other deformities inside the mouth. The most common remedies for these are teeth braces and teeth retainers. You may not need this service now because you already have perfect teeth, but you can use the service with some of your children in the future. This may be too early to be talking about the future, but you might know someone else who need this recommendation.

Dental implantation

Dental implantation is also a part of prosthetic dentistry. However, this is more specific with implanting an artificial base for dentures and the like that replace missing teeth. It uses titanium-based root device, most commonly known as dental implant. This device directly fuses with the bone. It still feels differently with dental implants though because they do not have the necessary ligaments needed to link the bone to the device. Although it most commonly supports dentures, it also supports implant-supported bridges and crowns.
