The last round of price rises saw a 10.9 per cent gain across the the US, as per Case-Schiller figures.

Case-Schiller’s survey saw all 20 markets included post price gains with a number of markets bettering 20 per cent in terms of increases.

Atlanta – where many big funds are buying up REOs - was among those at the very top of the table with a 19.1 per cent change, in the year to April.

Las Vegas posted a 20.6 per cent rise and Phoenix 22.5 per cent. Dallas, which happens to be attracting interest from both funds and overseas buyers, increased by just 6.8 per cent on the Case-Schiller statistics. The two Florida markets that the evaluation includes - Tampa and Miami - both posted rises of in excess of 10 %.

The Case-Schiller figures came at the same time that the total number of properties in some positionof foreclosuredroppedto 1.1 million, down from 1.5 million a year ago.

Foreclosures, though, were still occurring at a rate of 52,000 on a monthly basis – more than twice the average rate before the crisis.

It appears on these figures that the bottom for the US property market may have occurred about six to 12 months ago.
