Pain causes a great deal of discomfort. However, acute pain and chronic pain cause heavy suffering and in many cases even disability in certain body parts. This curtails the full use of the part and in worst cases one remains confined to bed moving only with assistance. There are various causes of pain ranging from injuries incurred in accidents and sports, infections and degenerative diseases and a person’s lifestyle. All these causes damage to the nerves in the musculoskeletal tissue. Muscles, tendons and ligaments throughout the body are usually the main affected areas. Medical advances have seen the introduction of pain treatment and management ways to enable patients lead quality lives.

Pain treatment is usually applicable to acute pain and whose causes can be corrected. In cases of terminal illness and chronic pain, pain management is administered. This is done through the use of pain therapy which varies depending on its cost and need of the patient. These therapies and treatments can be found in any orthopedic care. There are two forms of pain therapy which have proven effective. One is an emerging procedure ...
... and the other age old which is now popular. The practice of osteopathy has been around since being developed in the US in 1874. It is a holistic approach that seeks for a balance in the bodily systems for general well being.

The underlying principle for this pain management practice is that the body is a single unit of the body, mind and spirit. However, it has ability to defend and mend tissues and nerves. This practice does not involve surgery and is completely natural. It employs the use of manual techniques for strengthening the muscles and skeleton including stretching, application of pressure and joint manipulation. The examination is like any of a general practitioner but also includes tactile movement examination before diagnosis and pain treatment commence. This method is used mostly for pains in the back, neck and feet as well as injuries resulting from frequent strain.

The next pain therapy is an emerging practice. This is the use of laser treatment referred to ad cold laser therapy. It involves the use of low level light therapy laser for between ten to fifteen minutes. The beam penetrates the skin and reduces pain and burning sensation in a number of ways. First, it transmits an energy which increases blood flow in the affected area bringing with it more energy and nutrients needed to start the healing process. This treatment also reduces inflammation, and the pain signals being sent to the brain. The laser beam also stimulates the production of enzymes which aid in the cell repair and regeneration of the affected tissue.

Other functions of the laser light include stimulating the increase in the production of fibroblast and collagen for healing. It also leads to production of endorphins and encephalin which decrease the pain sensation. The lasers have been shown to speed nerve healing and reduce pain. Patients with acute pain usually notice improvement after 3-6 visits while for chronic cases it’s usually after 5-8 visits. It is important to consult your physician at the orthopedic care about these treatments
