Snoring makes many people feel very self conscious. These individuals feel that the snoring is out of their control; they do not know how to change the situation. That is simply not the case. The tips in the article below can show you how to reduce or remove your snoring issues.
Many people have found that sleeping in an upright position helps to combat snoring. Prop yourself up with an extra pillow or two. By doing this, you will keep drainage from clogging your nasal passageways and ensure that it flows down into your throat. This can prevent snoring.
The first step to curing yourself of snoring is to discover the cause of your snoring. You may have an underlying medical condition that is causing you to snore. If you fail to identify it, however, you cannot expect your snoring to stop. If you do, it could actually make your health worse.
Though it may sound strange, singing may actually cure snoring. Singing involves using your throat muscles. Therefore, the more you sing the stronger they become. Throat muscles with strength are less likely to permit snoring. Also, there are a few musical instruments that can make your throat muscles stronger, the saxophone and trumpet are a couple.
One way to keep yourself from snoring is by making "fish faces". It sounds funny, but making these faces will strengthen throat and facial muscles. Close your mouth and suck your cheeks in. Make movements with your lips, like you're a fish. Perform this simple exercise a couple of times per day.
You want to ensure that your nasal passages remain open if you want snoring to stop. A clogged nose, or one that is otherwise constricted, may contribute to snoring. Use humidifiers, vapor rubs, steam showers or neti pots to clear the nose when you have a cold. You may also use nasal strips that lift the nostrils, which allows more air to go through.
If you want to stop snoring, sleep in a different position. Usually, snoring occurs in a person who is sleeping on their back. Relaxed throat muscles and an open mouth, create a higher likelihood that you will snore. However, if you switch to side sleeping, this will stop that from occurring, and a more restful sleep without snoring could follow.
While you are sleeping, it helps to have your head elevated. A thicker pillow will do a better job of supporting your head. Using two or more pillows is also a possibility. With your head in this elevated position, you'll be able to breathe better, which can diminish or eliminate your snoring.
If you are a smoker, chances are good that you are also a snorer. If you decide not to quit, at least avoid smoking for a couple hours before bed. Smoking causes your throat to swell, leading to the narrowing of your airway. Narrowed airways often result in more snoring, so refraining from smoking will help prevent the inflammation that causes this.
Now that you've learned what you can do to get rid of some of the snoring you commit during sleep, you should start to feel like you can truly change the way you sleep. Feel free to try out this article's suggestions, and see if they can make a difference in the quality of sleep you get.
