If you want to stop snoring, sleep in a different position. Usually, snoring occurs in a person who is sleeping on their back. Relaxed throat muscles and an open mouth, create a higher likelihood that you will snore. However, if you switch to side sleeping, this will stop that from occurring, and a more restful sleep without snoring could follow.
While you are sleeping, it helps to have your head elevated. A thicker pillow will do a better job of supporting your head. Using two or more pillows is also a possibility. With your head in this elevated position, you'll be able to breathe better, which can diminish or eliminate your snoring.
If you are a smoker, chances are good that you are also a snorer. If you decide not to quit, at least avoid smoking for a couple hours before bed. Smoking causes your throat to swell, leading to the narrowing of your airway. Narrowed airways often result in more snoring, so refraining from smoking will help prevent the inflammation that causes this.
