Zagreb is a city that boasts of some of the most beautiful museums in entire Europe. Most of these well-stacked museums are located in the Lower Town section of the city. There are many other attractive sites over here as well – which should feature in your travel itinerary at the Croatian capital. You can stay at any of the high-end daily rental apartments in the Lower Town area, and plan enjoyable trips to the following places in this part of Zagreb:
i. The Strossmayer Gallery – For lovers of authentic, age-old European art creations, this place is an absolute haven. If you are staying at any of the rental apartments in Zagreb in the Lower Town, you can easily avail of local tram service to get to this famous gallery. Over here, some of the finest works of art stalwarts, like Bruegel and Bellini, are showcased. Don’t miss out on seeing the ancient Gothic script inscribed on the Baska slab.
ii. The Botanical Gardens – Get up, close and personal with the colorful flowers and vegetation patterns in the Croatian capital, by planning a day picnic to the Botanical Gardens. If your rooms in Zagreb are near the Glavni Kolodvor rail station, you will get direct trains to this place. Strolling about on the quaint little bridge at the Botanical Gardens would be a nice idea too!
iii. The National Theater – Once you have checked in at a centrally located Zagreb apartment, find out from the staff about the program itinerary at the tradition-seeped Croatian National Theater for the next few days. Witnessing a drama performance at this theater is nothing short of a lifetime experience. The building itself exudes a distinct personality, class and aura of its own.
iv. The Mimara Museum – Probably the most talked-about museum in the entire city. You will be amazed at the sheer variety of artistic objects and souvenirs from a bygone era, which are exhibited at this museum. Many artifacts from the Far East are highlighted over here as well. From the Zagreb apartments you take up abode at, taxis would surely be available to commute to this travel hotspot.
v. The Zrinjevac Square – Before booking apartments in Zagreb, make sure that you have chosen an accommodation facility near the main city square. That would enable you to visit the soothingly-green Zrinjevac Park with ease. The lovely park lies right near the middle of the bustling Zrinjevac Square. From any vantage point over here, you will get an idea of how the entire Lower Town has been planned.
vi. The Archaeological Museum – If you happen to be a coin-collector yourself, a visit to this museum would definitely be in order. At this place, you will get the chance to check out one of the finest collections of ancient coins (belonging to various phases of the Middle Ages) in Europe. Other classy artistic exhibits are showcased here too. You can travel by bus or tram from your daily rent apartment in Zagreb to the Archaeological Museum.
vii. The Maksimir Park – Sprawled over an area of nearly twenty hectares, the Maksimir Park is, arguably, the biggest tourist site in the eastern section of the Lower Town. If you are chalking up plans for a springtime trip to the city, look for a two bedrooms apartment in Zagreb near the city center – from where the park would be only a short distance away. Apart from delightfully lush lawn spaces, the park also has an imaginatively designed artificial water body, and several spacious walkways.
viii. The Ethnographic Museum – If you have a thing for beautiful handicraft pieces and accessories, this is the place you simply must visit. Beautiful folk dresses are put on exhibit at this museum – which represent the traditional cultures of practically all parts of the country. There are quite a few well-facilitated daily rental apartments near the Ethnographic Museum, where you can take up abode at.
ix. The Ilica Street – What’s a much-anticipated foreign trip, without a couple of days dedicated entirely to shopping activities? Right from dresses and fashion accessories, to gifts and souvenirs – you will find them all at the various stores that are set up on the sides of the easily-accessible Ilica Street in the Lower Town area of the city. There are several high-class restaurants and fast-food joint at Ilica Street as well.
While the Upper Town area of Zagreb has plenty of interesting travel sites as well, it does not quite have the air of splendor or panache which the Lower Town boasts of. There is no shortage of affordable accommodations in Zagreb in the Lower Town either. You will love to go on a detailed sightseeing tour at this section of the capital of Croatia!
