Total Articles: 26
The brand has been in existence for so long that many would argue that it was almost as old as time itself. Nokia holds a special place in all our hearts as it has been the first phone for many telecom initiates. The company is Finnish and has its HQ in Finland. It started out as a humble paper production plant and slowly ventured into the exciting world of telecommunications. They started out in the field of multinational communications and information technology.
The company, now under Microsoft’s leadership is known throughout the world for its mobile phone and smart phones. Apart from smart phones, they also specialize in IT devices. The company has its operational branches in over 120 countries and has always had a huge global footprint. The company has produced commercial and military communications devices as well as developed the VHF radio for civilian use.
The very first Nokia device was the NMT 900 which is quite popular with collectors who can get their hands on them. The phone that made people sit up and take notice for its sheer Undying Spirit was the Nokia 1100 that released in the year 2003. The phone was so well made that it could survive multiple instances of being dropped or even accidently thrown short distances.
It may be an exaggeration to say that Nokia phones can survive almost any punishment meted out to it, however, it is true that all their phones are known to be of sturdy build quality. The company developed the first commercially operated public mobile network in Finland, The ARP Standard. Over time, this network was expanded to provide Finland with complete coverage. Nokia phones were quite coveted and had become akin to status symbols for the rich in Finland.
The brand was also actively responsible for the development of the GSM technology that allowed the use of Voice as well as Data to be used together. This technology was then adopted globally in 1987. Nokia was the world leader in phones from 1998 to 2012 and it only started to slip with the advent of the Android and other OS powered phones.
The Nokia OS was the Symbian and was a sturdy platform for the phones to work on. With the advent of Android and other similar operating systems, Nokia chose to remain with Symbian though they did experiment with Linux based OS versions like the Maemo 5 and Meego. For the Indian market, they have brought out the Asha range that works well for people who want phones that do more than just support voice calls and texts. These phones are budget devices that are competitively priced.
Nokia mobile was praised for its superior camera thanks to their use of Carl Zeiss lenses in all their high end phone camera assemblies. The most famous of which is the Nokia 808 Pure View Smartphone that boasts a massive 41 MP sensor for superior photography. Nokia has always been a company known for innovation and groundbreaking developments thanks to their ceaseless research in the field of telecom and electronics
