Internet marketing, as a separate field, is incredibly large and all-encompassing, therefore it's no wonder that beginners can feel overwhelmed with it. In the spirit of trying to make it all less confusing, we'll discuss some online marketing approaches that have stood the test of time.

So many marketers drop the ball with their markets, and among other mistakes they sometimes target the wrong people - or audience. However you need to be ready for that traffic because you'll obviously need to convert traffic to sales. Yes, we know this sounds simplistic, but you do need to know exactly what you're doing - plus, there really are so many marketers who don't get this part right. You can achieve much higher conversion rates if you capture optins, build a list, and follow-up with them. But do not make the mistake of just sending them offer after offer with the hopes of making a sale. You must develop a good relationship with your subscribers by helping them and giving them value, first. Consider that they have voluntarily joined your mailing list, so the thing to do is build some trust and develop a solid business relationship. It's a proven fact that a person needs to be exposed to an offer at least 7 times to reach to a buying decision. So a sensible thing to do would be to give away an ecourse, valuable information that you can deliver to them through email. When email marketing first started, people focused on ecourses to build their list and to follow up with their prospects. Video is obviously huge, so that is another vehicle for presenting your content. It's really just all about trust and good relationships with people, if you give them great content with value, then they'll begin to think you're worth listening to. If you do this, soon you will see how powerful a list can be. Of course you can use something like Aweber to do that job for you. Let's move on and talk about social bookmarking because it has many uses and is powerful. There are hundreds of social bookmarking sites, and you can use them for traffic or SEO purposes. Actually, probably 99% of online marketers use these sites solely for backlinks, and not really as a direct source of traffic although you can do that.

Craigslist is not new, and even though it's really just a glorified classified ad site, you can produce some very nice results doing things a certain way. The most basic approach is posting ads on a consistent basis to see the results you want. One terrific thing about Craigslist is the ability to get excellent exposure for your self or business.

If you gain some good, solid working knowledge of online marketing, you'll see it's not that terribly difficult.
