Google+ Author Profiles Will Become The Essential Step For 2013

Authors and web publishers may have recently been adversely affected by the infamous 'panda' and 'penguin' updates to Google's search algorithm. First, poor quality inbound links incurred penalties, then poor quality content and web site structure resulted in devastation and annihilation in their hard won search rankings. This sounds like an article on SEO already. Let me assure you, all these things are highly inter-related, when web traffic and numbers of visitors to a web site are at stake. Income is greatly affected.
Social Signals in SEO
The new hub of the SEO wheel will be an author's profile at the rapidly expanding Google+ service. This fast evolving service has a hundred million regular users already. It is a collecting place for social signals such as +1 'likes' which determine a writer or web publisher's social reputation score.
While Facebook is using 'likes' and 'shares' and Twitter is using 're-tweets,' good old Google is constructing a new rank order based upon their +1 button, which you will soon see everywhere!
Another critical feature to grasp at Plus One headquarters is 'circles' where groups are constructed by members of Google+ social media site, in direct competition with Facebook. But the latter, famous water cooler and photo and video sharing site is not actually a search engine with a global reach. Google has built new authority into these social circles. Further, to add fuel to the Internet fires of hot competition, both of these major social networks are offering free, customizable pages to any business or for any niche marketing project. To date, Facebook has been way ahead in business pages tools and applications, while Google Places was cleverly becoming integrated into the Google+ social network.

Astute niche marketers and book publishers will now be able to construct targeted groups for marketing to, using Google 'circles' which is a far better way of doing things than Facebook is currently doing, using the more generalized notion of 'friends.' We all know that there are true and false, good and bad friends, desired and undesirable acquaintances hidden in our Facebook friends, totaling up to 5,000.
Build Your Reputation
Successful authors, writers and web publishers in the year 2013 would be advised to build their reputation in the new focal point of their Google+ profile. Articles, blogs and web sites can be linked back to the authorship profile to establish authority in a specific area of knowledge. There is a 'contributed to..' area on your author profile for linking out to your works. More important is the 'other profiles' area where you link to your blogger profile, Google Reader, Pinterest account and to your expert author page at EzineArticles.com.
Write good quality, well thought out material for your introduction, too, at the top of your page. It can partly be considered a promotional area and any full URL placed there, will turn into an active, blue link. Finally, add lots of photos and videos and make socially useful posts. The software in Plus is capable of facial recognition in your photos. Use this facility to the maximum and select your best full on facial picture for your presentation.
On the right hand side of your Google+ profile, in the laptop version, you can start a video hangout call. This easily matches Skype which is a Microsoft property now. Notice the competition at this big player level? You, too, will have to compete now for author profile rank, reputation and link power. On The Internet, the SEO game is always changing and the level of the playing field is tilting wildly, as these changes demand that you keep up on the knowledge.
