A Child-friendly Dental Clinic
Total Articles: 14
Some general dentists wonder why – despite the generic scope of clients they are allowed to entertain – most of the patients that visit their clinics belong to the older age groups. I mean, it is included in their training that they can do some oral treatments and procedures to all age groups – including children – but what causes the lack of appeal? For certain, there must be something that children avoid or something that kids are not strongly drawn to about a specific dentist or dental clinic. But whether it roots from a dentist way of approaching patients, it still boils down to the effectiveness of the environment. That’s what this article aims to talk about.
Make It Bright And Colorful
Colors may be underrated but they do make significant changes on how a room would look like! Imagine a traditional looking dental clinic with nothing but white walls, floors and ceilings. Well, nothing is wrong with it. In fact, it is a reflection of cleanliness, purity and even sophistication – however that would only work for those patients that are already professionals. In case it is of the dentists’ interest to attract also the younger groups – let’s say children ages 2 to 10 – color alterations should be applied. Well, you can stick to having white walls and all that. You just have to choose which features of the clinic needs to be highlighted for colors. We all know that children who belong to the age range mentioned above are not easily swayed by words especially when fear gets in the way. Colors have the power to subtly change kids’ minds.
Make It Look Like A Playroom
Another technique a dentist can attract children to go to his or her dental clinic is to distract them with toys and books. Put some teddy bears, some pony cycles. You can also add some informative posters that are suitably made to catch children’s attention. Instead of allowing the idea of fear to enter their minds whenever they visit a clinic, associate dentistry and oral health to fun and play instead. Make them look forward to the enjoyable experiences they can have with other kids while benefiting from dental services being offered. This strategy is actually good to eliminate fear without obviously doing it. Soon enough, the feeling of being afraid will be gone and they can actually influence their other playmates how nice it is to visit dentists regularly.
Make It Musical
Aside from toys and colors, there’s another distraction that can effectively encourage children to change their perception on going to a dental clinic. If you may notice, spa houses use music to create a relaxing ambiance for customers. Who says only spa houses can do that? It can also be used in dental clinics especially those that target children clienteles. What mood do you want to build? You can play nursery rhymes, or soundtracks of famous animations or any music sang by Greyson Chance. Music can definitely help you to communicate with the children without appearing to be pushy and noticeable and all that.
