The definition of success may vary between individuals, but studies have shown that shy people are more likely to become successful. Many consider shyness to be a malaise. At times, our strengths act against themselves, and end up being called weaknesses. Here is a list of characteristics which are considered weaknesses, but are really strengths to make you successful:

Cautiousness: Being cautious can prevent you from acting fast, but then it can be a great strength. If you face a tough situation at work and make an impulsive decision, you may invite a world of trouble. Contrarily, if you think things over and contemplate on them, you can approach the situation from a different angle.

Meekness: This quality can make you approachable. If you are just another guy, people can feel comfortable approaching you at work and at social gatherings. The western society does not appreciate meekness, but then it can actually be a social strength. If you are too aggressive or outspoken, no one will come near you.

Have a Calming Effect: If you are cool and quiet, it can lead to a calming effect on others. Others will understand ...
... that you do not suggest a lot of work, and often they will view shy people as being calmer. In the American society where people are more rewarded for blowing their own trumpet, being calm can have a profound and positive impact.

It’s Okay to Appear Vulnerable: In most work environments, people tend to take advantage of the shy guy. However, in jobs based on human services, like counseling, therapy and working with mentally challenged individuals, vulnerability is often appreciated because it make others open up.

Innocence: Shyness is generally considered to be a mark of goodness or innocence. In a number of situations, it is preferable to be good or innocent instead of being dominant or aggressive. It builds a stronger level of trust in others which categorizes you as a good leader.

Credibility: People who are shy are more believable. Outgoing individuals are considered self-serving while being shy makes a good impression on others, making them appear trusted and credible. Shy people can become effective orators and leaders.

Surmounting Obstacles: Shyness teaches us how to surmount obstacles. Mahatma Gandhi was an incredibly shy individual. In his job as a lawyer, Gandhi found it tough to speak before the judge, which obviously made him unsuccessful. Shy people learn to overcome their barriers and once they achieve that, the other barriers appear minor in contrast.

If you are shy, do not be afraid. You can always surmount your introversion or use the quality to be a winner.
