Egypt is situated between the Gaza Strip and Libya and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. Egypt is basically a desert plateau but blessed with the fertile Nile Valley and a long coastline. Both the Sahara and the Libyan deserts are located within Egypt and in ancient Egypt were known as the ‘red land’. Due to its closeness to the equator, the climate of Egypt is hot and dry and summers can become quite uncomfortable. Although winters are moderate, temperatures can dip quite sharply in the evenings in the desert areas. The dominant religion is Islam although Christians (mainly Coptic) are also present. The language is Arabic and the Egypt culture and traditions is Middle Eastern.

Egypt is home to some of the most stunning historical monuments in the world and the Giza Pyramids, literally as well as metaphorically, stand tall amongst them. When collecting information about Egypt you will definitely also come across other must-sees on the list of attractions and which include the magnificent Valley of Kings and the temples at Karnak. Egypt holidays can include Nile cruises or a trip to Aqaba with its beautiful white sands and clear waters. For the religiously inclined, a trip to Mt. Sinai where God first showed Himself to Moses is a must-visit. Cairo itself has many interesting facets and its old section is where you can glimpse the real Egypt.

It is best to arm yourself about as much information about Egypt as possible so that you can plan your holiday keeping your interests in mind. Although Egypt is a year-round destination, summers can get uncomfortably hot and the best period to visit Egypt is between October to May when the weather is not too hot. Be warned though; winters can see drastic drops in temperatures in the desert at night even when daytime is very comfortable. It is prudent to carry some warm attire and good walking shoes are vital for desert hills and unpaved paths.

Accommodation is not a problem as Egypt is well-equipped with innumerable staying options in all range of budgets. Guides to all the sights can be easily hired although like in any other touristy destinations, it is safer to avoid touts.
