Business cards are used at formal occasions. These business cards contain our name and contact information. They also include our business detail or the detail of the company in which we are employed. They contain the company name and logo in this regard. These business cards are our representatives and we should always take care to give a fresh business card to anyone because an old looking and bent business card does not appeal to anyone and may in fact let us lose a potential customer and important person. These business cards are used by people as memory aids and people refer to these cards when they want to remember the details of a particular individual. These business cards show everyone our social worth as well as our professional status and pedigree. Care must be taken to select business cards which represent us truly and without any problem. There are many business card designs and styles being used around the world in different parts of the world and these have all developed through their own rich histories and customs. The basic business card model and design is the same though because all business cards mention our business details with our personal contact information.
Business cards are printed on card stock. The term card refers to actually a thick paper. This paper is thicker than the writing paper. The paper used for card printing has a density of greater than 350 g/m2. Thicker paper is also getting very common for use in printing business cards. It is possible now to use thicker materials because the printing machines of today can easily manage printing on thick material which was difficult in the old times due to lack of advance technology.
Off-set printing presses usually are used to print business cards of highest quality. These presses use spot colors which are excellent in color reproduction and provide deep color finishes. Companies excel at making different spot colors and there are some spot colors which in fact are trademarks of individual companies. The general pattern of using this kind of printing requires the use of two spot colors. One color is used to print the company logo as it is registered in a company’s profile while the other color in fact is used to print out all the writing and text of the card. More spot colors can be used but they are costly if different colors are required for printing. A system of 4-color printing is used for printing various colors in this process. Their finishing though is not of very high quality. Digital printing methods now are quickly gaining popularity because digital machines can directly be attached with computers and internet to directly process printing jobs which are prepared on specific software on the computer. The quality of modern digital prints is also increasing and the new digital machines can compete with the best of printing presses now for color quality and finishing. Different coatings such as spot UV coatings are also used in business cards to give them a glossy and smooth finish. Silk coating is also getting famous these days for business cards which also make them water resistant.
