The demand for a management degree has increased. It is considered as a general degree and often referred as a "helicopter view" as it helps to understand the business as a whole. Nowadays companies prefer employees who have an MBA degree. They should have in-depth knowledge, skill and expertise in their domain areas.
Whenever students choose a specialization, they should consider their interests, goals and professional development. Some of the specializations offered are:
Finance:
Finance is one of the oldest and popular forms of specializations. It prepares you in various subjects like costing, financial management, investments and securities etc. If you are good with numbers, reasoning ability and able to implement decisions then this would be the apt specialization for you. There is an immense growth in this field. The work profile will include raising funds for different projects, maintaining accounts, analysis and preparation of budgets for new investments.
Marketing:
A person who is dynamic with excellent communication skills can excel in marketing. The focus of study will be in areas like marketing, sales, advertising, public relations etc. If you have the ability to take risks, outgoing personality, excellent communication skills then this is the apt field for you. A student with marketing specialization can work as a marketing trainee, market research analyst, new product manager, market planning executives etc.
Human Resource:
An organization is successful only when it has got the right set of people in it. The employees are the asset of the organization. If you can handle people, good communication skills then you can go a long way in this field. Human Resource is all about recruiting, performance management, staffing, training, groups, team-building and so on.
Operations:
An MBA in operations management may not be in demand but it is slowly catching up. It is mainly associated with designing, controlling and managing the production of goods and services. The work of an operations officer is to develop vendor relationships, interdepartmental linkages and look after a smooth running of the business. If you are planning to opt for operations as your specialization then you may start off as Product Manager, Supervisor and reach the position of General Manager of the company.
Information Technology:
Information Technology or Management Information Systems are one of the most important MBA specializations. A student with a systems specialization can work as a system analyst, system manager and Business Development Manager.
