A catalyst is a term given to a substance that speeds up a chemical process without affecting either of the components involved in the reaction. When vitamins are present in the body, this means that the body is able to metabolize at a faster rate. Vitamins combine with proteins to help in creating metabolically active enzymes, which then produce many chemical reactions throughout the day. Vitamins help the body cells to function properly. Hundreds of chemical reactions take place in the cell. Vitamins are responsible for sustaining these reactions. These reactions are useful because this is how the body functions. This is how the body is able to extract energy.
More specifically, vitamin A is very important because of the role it plays in enhancing bone growth, cell division, and reproduction. They also aid in digestion and promote good muscle tone. Vitamin D helps in preventing bone loss. Vitamin D is also available from the sun. Therefore, just basking in the sun a few hours a day is enough to give you the adequate amount of vitamin D that you require. However, too much exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays will damage your skin.
Vitamin E is a very effective fat-soluble antioxidant. It occurs in the human body naturally. It protects the physical stability of the intercellular membrane as well as providing defense against diseases and infections. It also protects against tissue damage cause by oxidation.
Taking vitamin supplements in the form of pills will go a great length in boosting your immune system. All vitamins work to protect your body against infections and diseases.
