It has been proved that cranes are undeniably useful machines in the workplace. The basic function of crane is to lift the heavy amounts of weight from one place to another so that it can make the job easier and quicker. As due to the great power these cranes are considered tremendously dangerous. By any chance if the load carried by the carne drops then there is no way to warn the workers or stop them. The resulting damage can turn out dangerous and in serious injuries. Therefore to prevent all these hazardous circumstances the operator must learn initially the crane safety systems rules and regulations so that accidents can greatly be avoided. There are several types of cranes such as industrial cranes, collision avoidance crane, electrical crane and overhead crane. In different fields of industries different types of cranes are utilized.
More than 90% of the crane accidents are caused by operator error. Before operating the crane the worker must be well aware about its functions and usage. Even the worker must take a note of crane characteristics along with cranes weight so that they can get correct load attach. OSHA has announced various rules and crane safety precautions methods and procedures so that crane operator can follow them appropriately. Also basic knowledge about crane operation will help the workers in operating it safely. Usually crane accidents are caused due to human error therefore hard work, right attitude and basic knowledge are crucial before operating crane. Many accidents occur by crane are because of overconfidence and lack of attention. The operator before working with machine must be physically and mentally prepared so that mistakes are not taken.
Operating crane is not an easy task. It involves lot of physical and mental work. Moreover there are some systems that should be looked before working with crane. These systems are such as the crane operator should be dressed in protective equipment and clothing along with shoes of steel toed. He should also wear safety glasses so that he can protect himself against falling objects. Once the operator is prepared the next step is to inspect the crane and its parts functionality so that further procedure can take place safely. Also it is very important for the crane operator to check the switches as well as small leaks so that all can be repaired initially. Even the controls, fluid levels and brakes all must be checked.
When being completely prepared to operate the crane, the operator should also check the load cell. Load cell is also identified as load transducer and it is a device of crane that helps in controlling and converting the force into electrical signal. Even this load cell is known as electronic device and the main function of this device is to alter the strength into electrical measurable output.
