Language learning is an important part of school life nowadays because it can make all the difference to a student’s future. Even if they are not planning on using the language as part of their future career, they will still develop lots of skills from learning a second language which will make them desirable to employers. Plus, it will come in handy if they decide to travel.

One of the most popular languages being taught in schools if French. Being the native language of over 75 million people and an adopted language of millions more people, French is a great language to learn because it will enable the learner to communicate with so many people all over the world. French is the main language of the western world, aside from English, and is the official language of lots of different countries worldwide, including fifteen different African countries.

A great way of teaching French for schools is to take students on an immersion trip. Language immersion trips are brilliant teaching tools because when students are learning languages in the classroom, they are able to speak in English to their teacher and classmates if they can’t remember a word or phrase, so there is no pressure on them to really take in the information or to try their hardest to remember it. If they are put in a situation where everyone around them is a native speaker of the language, they will have to work harder to use it in their everyday activities, and will therefore find it easier to remember phrases which they struggled with before. They will also be able to improve their pronunciation of words, copying the people around them, and may pick up new words and phrases, too.

France is rich in culture and there are lots of things which could benefit students not only in their language studies, but also in other subjects they may be studying such as art or history. There are plenty of places to visit which are ideal for school trips. Paris, Lille and Normandy French school trips have all been successful in the past because they give students a great range of opportunities to use their language skills, and they open up a whole world of French culture to students, allowing them to relate to the people they are learning to interact with.

Taking students on a school trip will allow them to develop a genuine interest in learning more about the country and the language, and will give them the opportunity to learn independently and pick up new words and phrases that they haven’t been taught in the classroom. Whilst at school they might be taught a lot of common phrases, when students are around native speakers, they can ask for new phrases that they feel they need to know, and can practice putting their skills into action in a real life situation. They can also listen out for words they may be struggling with to work on their pronunciation. French for schools is one of the most popular languages and every student deserves the opportunity to develop their knowledge of it as much as possible.
