This program combines general business studies with training in building technologies and facilities. The program is designed to train students specifically for a career in facility management.

However, since it is an undergraduate degree program, students take general education courses in humanities, math, science and social science as well. Upon completion of the program, students should be able to enter the workforce with advanced technical skills in and theoretical knowledge of facility management.

Education Prerequisites

Since it is an undergraduate degree program, students are not expected to already have a background in facility management. To enter the program, students are required to have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Students who already have an associate degree only have to finish the last two years of the program. If students have an Associate in Applied Science in Architectural Technology or a related subject, they might not have to take some of the required core courses.

Program Coursework

A B.S. in Facility Management program offers both practical and theoretical courses. Practical courses train students in the daily tasks required in facility management. These courses include developing project management skills and gaining real-world/internship experience. The theoretical courses cover the principles and concepts of facility management, business and economics.
Core courses include:

Project management skills
Facility management principles
HVACR building systems (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration)
Statistics
Management skills development
Property development and planning
Facility management internship

Popular Career Options
Although students can use their facility management degree in many related management positions, this degree program is designed to prepare students specifically for a career in facility management. Popular career options include:

Facility manager or director
Building and systems analyst
Architectural and construction planner
Director or planner of building technologies

The Bachelor's Degree in Facilities Management articulates with the college's Associate degrees in Architecture, Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, and Environmental Control Technology.

It adds the financial, management, legal and additional technical skills that are required to enable our graduates to function very effectively as facilities managers. Graduates are employed as facilities managers in hospitals, universities, industrial buildings and large commercial and residential complexes. There are also avenues for individuals with non-articulated associate degrees to enter the program.

Programme content

Full-time students undertake four courses in semester one and a further four courses in semester two.

Service Procurement and Provision
Contracts and Procurement
Project Management Theory and Practice
