Business cards are those small and palm sized objects that we use to provide our formal introduction at places of professional importance. These cards are usually exchanged at formal gatherings and meetings. They are used in circumstances where we cannot provide our detailed introduction and these cards are used to provide basic introduction which always include contact information. People who are doing relevant activities and require us in their need or professional query can then contact us later for professional inquiries as well as asking any services that a person or a business provides. Business cards therefore give importance to a person’s name as well as the company he or she represents. Company logos are always printed these days on business cards and a person can recognize your professional worth just by looking at the company logo. Business cards are especially useful though for people who run small businesses and provide different services in personal capacities. These people use business cards as marketing symbols and an effective business card can directly bring business to a person.
Business cards are printed usually on paper stocks. These days there are many people who love to use other special materials such as silk, plastic and metal for their special business cards. Thick paper is used for business card printing. Business cards are usually printed on at least a 12 point thick paper. Much thicker paper is also used and 24 point thick cards are now also printed by most business card printing companies. These thick cards can now be easily printed due to advancement in technology and modern very capable printing presses. Fresh business cards are always given at formal introductions and no one likes to use bent or damaged business cards. It is considered unethical to use a business card which is not in a good physical condition just like the customs we follow for presenting bank notes at important occasions.
Traditionally business cards were printed on printing presses. These presses use spot colors and provide high quality prints. Printing plates are prepared first when using printing presses. This makes the initial cost of printing high and fixed for any number of business card prints. This high quality method therefore is competitive when there are a greater number of prints because the printing dye is only prepared once and can then be used to print countless prints at a very high speed. These presses use rubber sheets which press the printing on the paper giving smoother and long lasting colors. Traditionally only black ink was used to print business cards but multiple colors are used these days for printing cards.
Digital printing is also a much recent printing solution for business cards. Digital prints of a decade ago were considered of low quality because small lines could not be properly printed using digital methods. The machinery of today has removed all problems and digital printing has reached almost the same quality as that of off-set printing. It has occurred due to arrival of new digital printing presses which use colors that give similar finish to normal printing presses.
