Most people who are marketing with articles haven't received any special writing training, and they can unknowingly put themselves under unnecessary strain by having unreasonable writing expectations for themselves.
When you imagine an accomplished writer who submits articles on a regular basis, do you think that he just sits down at his desk and hammers away at his keyboard non-stop until he has a finished article?
That's actually not the way it works. People who are good writers also don't automatically know what to write about--they have to train themselves to notice writing ideas.
If you're new to writing articles or if you just want to refine your writing habits, check out these 5 article marketing strategies for how to write anything, no matter what your topic:
1 - Always be ready to write down article ideas.
Ideas can come at any time, and most of the time it's not when you're at your desk! You will probably be in the most inconvenient place, and you need to have a way to make note of your writing idea so that you don't lose that inspiration.
One idea is to carry a little notebook with ...
... you wherever you go, and then you'll always be ready. You can also call your voicemail and leave yourself a message with your writing idea. Maybe you have a phone that allows you to jot down notes.
The point is to be prepared for writing ideas to come to you at all times. Writing is not all done in your office--it can start anywhere.
2 - Focus on flow.
A great article goes beyond just having proper spelling and grammar. A truly quality article has "flow" between ideas, sentence, and paragraphs. When you're writing, don't get caught up on the spelling and grammar, at least not at first. Instead, focus on the structure of your article and how the ideas flow from one to another.
The proofreading part (corrections to spelling and grammar) of the writing process is the last step, to be done after your article is constructed.
3 - Sit and think.
Much of writing is thinking. A lot of writers start to feel uncomfortable when they're not typing and get worried if they're spending a good bit of time just staring at their computer screen thinking about their article.
You can relax though--it is natural to do a lot of sitting and thinking during the creation of your article. In fact, you're probably doing more to write an article when you're sitting and thinking than you are when you're typing.
4 - Use your notes as an outline.
You'll start with a writing topic, and it's a good idea to jot down some basic notes before trying to really write. These notes about what the points you'd like to cover in your article are like the skeleton of your article. They are the support beams around which your article is created. Jotting down simple notes helps you to start your article--it also helps you avoid the dreaded blank page!
5 - Reading your article from the beginning can help you get past a hurdle.
If you're writing an article and suddenly feel lost, take a step back. Start reading what you have written so far, starting at the beginning. By the time you get to the spot where you were stumped last time, most likely you'll know how to proceed.
This is like taking a running start before jumping over a puddle. Reading your article from the beginning gets your mind moving, gets some momentum going, and makes it easier for you to know what the next step is.
You may have to read your article from the beginning in this way several times during your article writing process.
Does this help you in learning how to write articles?
It's normal to not know what to write about and to have to come up with tricks for generating article ideas. It's normal to spend time thinking and not typing during your article writing process. It's also normal to come to spots where you aren't sure how to go forward.
If you find yourself doing or experiencing any of these things, then you can relax and know that what you're going through is common to all writers. If you know what to expect, it will save you a lot of worry. Even without any formal training, you can learn how to write articles by following these tips.
