It may be a surprise to you to know that in using article submissions to market your website, suddenly you're a writer.
You may not feel like a writer, and you may not know all the things that professional writers know, but you are writing articles for public usage, nonetheless, and you are for all intents and purposes "a writer".
So, how can you grow into this new role as you're marketing with articles?
Anytime you're starting a new activity or trying to learn a new skill, it helps to look to those who are more experienced than you. As a new writer, you will gain much by looking at the habits of professional writers and trying to incorporate some of their habits into your own writing routine.
After all, professional writers have been writing for a long time, and they've figured out a writing routine that works best for them. In this article we'll look at some common habits of professional writers, and you can decide which habits might be of use to you:
1 - Many professional writers do their writing in the early morning hours.
Yes, the time of day when writing work is done seems to make a ...
... difference. If you want to be strategic about developing a writing routine, you may want to try writing in the early morning.
Why would so many writers choose to write in the morning?
Concentration is an issue, and the early morning hours tend to be the quietest, as other people are still sleeping.
Also, in the morning your mind has not had a chance to get wrapped up in other tasks. You're basically starting with a clean slate (or as clean a slate as you can get), and your mind is free to focus on writing.
Writing is also a task that requires focused attention, and you may have more energy in the early morning (after you get used to waking up earlier).
2 - Afternoons are often saved for editing or other non-writing work. Some writers won't work in the afternoon at all, calling it "mental dead time".
Editing requires less creativity and mental exertion, so it makes sense that writing would happen in the morning and editing in the afternoon. Some writers will work in the evening, but I think that's a minority. It makes sense that by the time night rolls around most of us are tired and find it hard to concentrate enough to create an article.
3 - Many professional writers like to work in a quiet and isolated place that is free from distractions.
This makes perfect sense considering the concentration that is required to create written content. Some writers take the quest for quiet to extremes by working in isolated locations (say a cabin in the woods), or an office that is separate from the writer's house.
Others try to make their work area as free from distractions as possible, sometimes working in an office without windows, or working in a confined office area that doesn't have any phone, internet, or decorations on the wall. The idea is that their desk is for writing only, and they don't want anything to take their mind off of their task.
Surely the idea of eliminating distractions is wise, and putting some effort into creating a controlled work environment is worthwhile. In some ways, the habits of professional writers can seem extreme, but do you think that any of these habits can be adapted to suit your writing routine? Say perhaps trying to write in the early morning, or turning off your phone while you write to eliminate distractions?
It doesn't hurt to experiment. In adopting some habits of professional writers you may find that you're starting to regard your article writing as a craft that you're honing rather than just another task you need to mark off your to-do list. You may also find yourself developing pride in your growing skill. The quickest way to make progress is to emulate someone who is more advanced than you, and that is true when it comes to writing as well.
