This is the oldest on our list of 5 historic Boston Restaurants, and it has some interesting history. The name was selected in honor of the original owner’s profession as the Boston town crier. When Jimmy Wilson retired from that post in 1795 he opened the Bell in Hand Tavern which has greeted notables including Paul Revere. Fresh seafood and cold drinks make this a favorite still with locals and visitors.

Woody’s L Street Tavern opened in 1933 and for a while was only frequented by locals in the South Boston neighborhood where it is located. That changed when the tavern was featured in the movie Good Will Hunting. Now the tavern is a favorite stop of both movie fans and lovers of Boston’s historic Restaurants.
