The extreme pain associated with all the dental problems without exception causes this fear in the minds of the people. Whether it is tooth disorientation, gums weakness, tooth decay, plague, TMD or any other dental disease one recalls. The TMD or TMJD is nothing but temporomandibular joint dysfunction which is the problem experienced in smooth and healthy functioning of the lower jaw. The joint called TMJ connects the mandible with the skull and is an important joint in the human body.
The tmj pain is highly problematic as it disturbs the routine functions of the patient and he cannot eat or chew in a proper manner which in turn affects hid general health in a bad way. The dentists advise various types of treatment to cure it and in some extreme cases operation is the only option left with the dentists. The joint called tmj is important in ensuring the smooth movement of the lower jaw (the only movable jaw) and hence, is highly significant in ensuring the good health of one’s mouth. One can easily imagine the bad effects that one will be forced to face in case he is not in a position to move his TMJ properly.

There are many names for the tmj such as TMD or TMJD. To cure tmj pain the dentists generally avoid to give a treatment which cannot be reversed such as an operation performed on the troubled area. The commonly applied treatments also include the social therapy such as cognitive behaviour therapy in addition to placement of occlusal splints. There are some surgeries to cure the severe tmj pain as well and such surgeries call for high degree of competency in the field.

The tmj pain is not at all a single trouble and just like any other disease it disturbs the quality of life of a patient to a high extent. One cannot eat healthily or conduct routine functions in a confident manner. The disease causes pain and this factor compels one to move to a dentist as soon as possible. It is only a dentist who can give some relief to the patient by his patient hearing and sound advice. He may give a pain killer or an injection according to the requirement of the patient. The cost that comes for such treatments is not very high and depends upon the other factors such as the age of the patient, his general oral health and medical history.
