A recent Wall Street Journal mentions that ‘countries that suffer from an ageing and declining population should open up the gates on immigration, as solution to a debilitating economy’. Australia is being seen as one of such countries which are facing a lot of problem on this account. The Federal Treasurer of Australia confirms the journal findings – ‘Australia is one among the under-populated countries with a low birth-rate and a negative growth on skilled workforce. The country is therefore facing a problem where the labour market is getting less competitive’.
Filling up gaps in the labour market by an increased immigration is the only viable solution to this concern!
This is one of the reasons why Immigration to Australia from India has grown leaps and bounds. More number of Indians are now moving to Australia in search of occupations and PR status. Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has made necessary adjustments to the immigration policy and have narrowed down the Skilled Immigration to Skillselect.
Skilled Independent Visa had long been the mainstay of skilled immigration to Australia. But, the latest of the changes on skilled immigration now require the applicants to first place an Expression on Interest (EOI) on Skillselect. Similarly every application under Regional Sponsorship or State Nomination is also to be routed via Skillselect. The initiative has helped the Australian government to place a filter on skilled immigration and make sure that only the most competent join the talent pool.
Skillselect is therefore a major component on immigration to Australia from India. The applicants are required to first place an EOI that explains the reason on immigration, objective and purpose. This needs to be accompanied with a detailed description of education, professional experience, age, language, skills and financial competence. Skillselect would in turn allot points to each criterion. It is mandatory to score a least of 60 points to qualify for a probable visa.
Your score on Skillselect is a reflection on your probability on immigration. As a policy feature, DIAC would approve visa to only those immigrants who get a good standing on the list. A good score would mean that you have all the competencies to produce a good performance at the work place and justify your immigration visa. Skillselect would send you an invitation to come join Australia for a specified occupation.
Some points require a good attention of the immigrants and make sure that the application makes a highlight on this. Regional Sponsorship Visa is an important category which is getting prominence in term of skilled immigration. Placing an application under state nomination would mean that you have to work at a specified territory but this also gets you a priority on job allotment. Similarly, making a right selection on Skilled Occupation List (SOL) is necessary so that your skills and abilities get the right platform.
Skillselect is an important aspect on Australian immigration and must be understood well prior to making an application. Your skills and abilities should be highlighted in a way that these truly reflect your potential to succeed at the workplace.
