Does Article Marketing Even Work Anymore
Total Articles: 36
It seems everyone these days is asking, does article marketing still work? I had a client ask me that yesterday. And of course, I keep saying, yes, it works, I still do it, I make just as much per article as I used to. Sure, I don't write as many articles, but not because it doesn't work, but because now that I have a following I spend more time on paid traffic and nurturing my followers than I do writing the articles.
It's kind of like asking, does selling girl scout cookies door to door still work? Well, yes it does. Well why don't more people sell them door to door? Well because girls have figured out that if they sit in front of a grocery store they sell more cookies faster. And they are too lazy to go door to door (maybe).
It is like when a new guy starts a local painting company. He prints 10,000 flyers and takes his kid out and puts flyers on people's doors. He gets 100 jobs and make $10,000 from those flyers. The flyers worked. So why doesn't he keep putting flyers out? Not because they don't work, but because he's so busy painting homes he doesn't have time to put flyers out. He'd rather re-invest $2,000 of the $10k that came in from the flyers, into mailers. Why not just hire some people to put out flyers? Because he can mail more mailers for $2k than he can get kids to put out flyers. That's kind of like me. I have found that I can pay someone $500 and they send me 1000 visitors who turn into 300 subscribers and the whole transaction takes me 5 minutes.
Now does that mean I WON'T make $500 off of THIS article? Nope. It means that I do both, and because of the value of my time, I just don't write as many articles. And when I do write them, they are more geared towards a more mature audience, people like my clients who are going to read this article, not some web searcher.
So yes, article marketing works. And there is a time and place for using it. Look at Forbes. Do they do article marketing? Think about it. Spend some time on their site. Do they do article marketing? They have like more than a million articles on their site, I've they have hundreds of writers, is that really any different from... article marketing. Now, do they make a profit from it? I sure hope so, where else are they going to find the funds to pay the writers?
There are many, many companies out there that are doing article marketing. You might not call it article marketing, but it is. In fact, every time you write an article and put it on your blog and call it a blog post, you are article marketing. Every time someone writes something and puts it on their website for others to read, he is doing article marketing. You might not think of it as article marketing. But it is. Article marketing works.
By the way, do you want to know how I actually make the money from the articles I write? You see, the articles themselves don't make money. The articles only generate the traffic to my website. But the money doesn't happen until someone gets to my website.
Here's how it works:
Someone reads my article
They like what I taught in the article and want to learn more
They go to my website
They like what they see
They buy training
They like the training
They want more from me
They enroll in my coaching
So the real money doesn't come from the articles, it comes from what I teach at the site. Just like when painter dude puts flyers out, the money doesn't come from the flyers. It comes when "lady with an old house" calls painter dude and says "hey, come paint my house?"
So what do I teach that people pay me for?
I teach people who are selling products online how to sell $1000 coaching packages to the product buyers. That's where the real money is. Behind the scenes.
And if you are writing articles to make money, but you don't have a "behind the scenes" - that's why article marketing isn't working for you.
