How I Increased My Hubpages Author Score
Total Articles: 37
Like Google, there appears to be an algorithm used that takes months and months to figure out when it comes to HubPages Author Scores. If you haven't yet noticed, there is a score on your profile picture that ranks you as the Author. Many Authors have seen a fluctuation in their Author Score for no apparent reason. There was no addition or subtraction of articles, or a change in an existent article. This can be frustrating at times. Although the Score appears random at times, it's a goal of many Authors to get that Score as high as possible.
I personally bottomed out at a '1' within a month of publishing on HubPages. Yes, a '1.' This was for one reason alone - I posted duplicate content. It wasn't stolen content. It was simply content I've used on other article sources to create awareness of my name and my knowledge. HubPages didn't like that. As a result, my score crept down further, day-by-day.
Lets take a look at what has a direct affect on your HubPages Author Score.
This might be the most obvious reason why your HubPages Author Score might increase or decrease. You must treat your articles on HubPages like you would the content of your website, your blog, or even a term paper your turn in to your college professor.
Pay special attention to the grammar of your articles, spelling and sentence structure.
Your articles must answer questions. Articles on HubPages are meant to be informative.
Your articles must be clearly written. You can supply answers all day long, but if they don't make sense, what's the point?
And don't plagiarize!
The content of your article plays the most pivotal role in your Author Score. Not only does it impact the your Author Score directly, but it can also impact the performance of the other "pieces" as well.
Traffic comes from every direction. Traffic can come directly from HubPages itself or from outside sources like blogs, news outlets and even word-of-mouth. Don't be too concerned with generating an oogle amount of traffic a month into joining HubPages. It won't happen.
However, you can utilize outside sources to increase your traffic.
Use Twitter to let your followers know you've posted a new article.
You can use StumbleUpon and purchase traffic to your articles. It's a cheaper, paid method.
Use Facebook to promote your articles.
These are only a few ways to promote your article using outside sources.
So what's the point of this? The more traffic you can generate to your Hubs, the more HubPages will see your content as quality information, the higher your score will go.
The best-case scenario would be posting 100 of your best articles to HubPages and watching your score increase. That's not the case however. HubPages has a few other areas on their website where you can participate outside of the Hubs to increase your Author Score.
The Forum allows users to ask talk about HubPages, the rules, Hubs, strategies and more. You can use the forum to help increase your score by participating in the discussions that take place. I do not believe your score will increase as much as a good, quality article however, the participation alone can help bring your score up a bit.
The Question & Answer section is similar to the forum. Here, users will ask simple questions hoping to get simple answers in relation to HubPages. Helping out other Authors is a great way to increase your HubPages Author Score.
Participation on your own Hubs probably outranks the other two mentioned ways. It not only keeps conversations going on your Hubs, but it can help drive traffic to your Hubs by promotion. If one of your readers finds your articles and discussions informative, they could promote your article to their friends. And it increases exponentially. Not too mention, it tells people you are interested in what you're writing and willing to discuss opinions, thoughts, suggestions and more.
This was the easiest way to describe pictures, videos, affiliate and all other items you could place within your Hubs to generate interest. If HubPages didn't allow users to post these types of items, it would simply be another article directory. By placing captivating images or informative videos within your Hubs, you are generating more interest within your Hubs. This will increase the time-on-page for your Hub, which will help increase your HubPages Author Score.
* There might not be a direct correlation between the number of pictures and your Score, however, it will increase the attractiveness of your Hubs.
Search Engine Optimization
SEO is more of an indirect method of increase your score. It correlates directly with outside traffic however. If you can use strong keywords within your Hubs, you can increase the chance of your Hubs being displayed in organic searches through search engines. If you find success in this, you outside traffic will increase which will help your overall Hub traffic increase. You will then see an increase in your HubPages Author Score.
In all truth, I am sure there are more "pieces of the puzzle" than the items mentioned above. However, these are the very basics of driving your HubPages Author Score as high as you can get it. It will take time and I have found that out the hard way by not following HubPages rules on duplicate content.
Taking the right preparation steps will ensure your Hubs will help increase your HubPages Author Score.
