If you will read some news and reports about electronic cigarettes, anywhere you turn, you will find about restrictions, studies and regulations of the product. Some countries are still not allowing it to be sold in the market while some have already sent a green light. In New Zealand, the future of this kind of product is quite intriguing. One reason for this could be because more and more players are entering the market, including the Soulblu electronic cigarettes products. It is in this regard that it is worth knowing about its current legal status in the country, as well as its possible future.

What is its current legal status?

Currently, these kinds of products like the Soulblu electronic cigarettes that contain nicotine are still prohibited to be sold in the market. This is especially true if it is not a medicine. Well, this is because under the existing laws, a non-medical nicotine product will be under the scope of the Smoke-free Environments Act. Nevertheless, new developments have emerged for those e-cigarettes that contain synthetic cannabis. This is because a new law, which is the Psychoactive Substance Bill, is being proposed to be passed to a new legislation. As of this July, it is already in its third and final reading.

What could be its future?

Control is the word that could best describe the future of electronic cigarettes in New Zealand. This is because while it is still not legally acceptable to sell this kind of product in the market today, it will be allowed sooner or later. Nevertheless, it will not take for long. This is because some reports say that as it becomes a popular option among tobacco smokers, the number of users of tobacco cigarettes will eventually decrease. When that time comes, governments could control the consumption of electronic cigarettes through sin tax. There are also some advocacies to make New Zealand smoke-free by 2025.

Will the people and the government be able to accept it?

Moreover, in terms of the people’s sentiments on these kinds of products like the Soulblu electronic cigarettes, they are inclined to accept it. This is as some studies, like the one from the University of Auckland, start to support that it can help people to quit smoking tobacco cigarettes. The word of mouth is also very effective in convincing people too. One example of this would be the story of Eric Birch, who had been smoking tobacco for over 40 years already. He is one of the participants of the study conducted by University of Auckland.
