Tips For Capturing Wedding Sparkler Writing In Photos
Total Articles: 452
Wedding sparkler writing as become all the rage, with brides spelling out "love" or their wedding date or the entire wedding party spelling out "happily ever after," or forming a heart. This is definitely one of the most creative takes on using sparklers for weddings, creating a magical and fun moment. While sparklers have mostly been used to create a tunnel for the bride and groom to exit through, you might be wondering how you can capture these sparkler writing photos at your own wedding. While there are many ways to do it, here are the steps your wedding photographer will probably take.
Two off camera flashes on stands will be necessary, as well as a tripod, camera, wireless remotes, the sparklers and the couple. Flashes will be set to manual at 1/2 and pointed directly at the couple. These shots are long exposure pictures so the off camera flashes are used to "freeze the couple and their movement. One great idea is posing the bride holding a lit sparkler, and then the photographer will light another sparkler off the bride's sparkler and use it to make a shape or word. While it will appear as if the bride wrote the word in the picture, it's actually the photographer doing it.
The bride will continue holding the sparkler close to her, and this is a long exposure shot, which means there will be plenty of light cast from the sparkler to illuminate the couple in the dark. Both a closed aperture and the off camera flash will help with this, too.
Next, the camera needs to be set to manual so the photographer can control the shutter and aperture. The higher the aperture, the more defined the wedding sparklers appear. More open and the sparklers are less defined and look more like balls of bright light.
The flash setting on the camera should be set to the rear, as leaving it on normal will make the flash go off at the beginning, but it should instead go of at the end, just before the shutter closes. This burst of light will work to freeze the couple in place, whether they're just looking each other or kissing. At this point, the couple should stay as still as possible.
Next, the camera can be set on a timer for the length of the exposure, although setting the shutter to bulb works well, too. An assistant will take the actual picture while your photographer does the writing. When the photographer's ready, the assistant depresses the shutter button and holds it to start the exposure. Your photographer will then paint the words with the sparklers for weddings, stepping out of the frame when the assistant is ready to release the shutter. The flash will fire, the shutter will close and the picture will be ready.
The most important thing to make sure you get great photos is choosing 36-inch premium wedding sparklers for sale, which burn for nearly 4 minutes and produce virtually no smoke or ash. Unlike fireworks sparklers, these are made with a wire component, not wood, and they'll produce beautiful pictures of your wedding that you will cherish forever.
