What Are Led Light Bulbs?
Total Articles: 7959
LED light bulbs use a considerably new technology that took off to a great start and its popularity is growing by leaps and bounds. The advantages of these fantastic bulbs are just too many to be able to count on your fingers. They are impact resistant, incredibly energy efficient and long lasting. However, what exactly are they and how do they work? The full form of LED is Light Emitting Diode. It is a specialized semiconductor that throws light just in one direction. The diode itself is made up of several layers of silicon.
It has rare-earth elements such as germanium, phosphorus and arsenic between the silicon layers. These layers are known as the die. The layers are not attached to each other and the spaces between these are where the light is generated from. Different designs and materials that are used for making these diodes is what make them emit lights of different intensities and colors. When LED lights were first invented, they were considered to be unsuitable for everyday lighting. This was because they could produce light only when red blue and green LED’s were grouped together. This was a major disadvantage of these lights at that point of time.
These three colors merged and emitted the white light that the LED light bulbs threw. LED technology evolved and the bulbs that are available today are very different from the ones that were available a decade ago. The modern day LED’s are available in cool or warm whites just as standard bulbs are. For those who want colored lighting, red green, blue, yellow and purple lights are also available. You can also get them in any shade of aqua, orange and yellow too. You think of a color and you will find an LED bulb of that hue.
There has been a great deal of improvement in LED technology and LED mr16 bulbs can be used in a variety of applications. LED bulbs are also damage resistant than most other bulb types and they have anti-flicker properties. These lights can be used for ceiling lighting, strip lighting, pool lighting, fairy lighting and outdoor lighting. There are spotlights and vehicle headlights that will throw the brightest and the clearest beams. These lamps are becoming increasingly popular. They are amazingly power-efficient and long-lasting. They produce very bright light with the least amount of energy.
LED mr16 bulbs are extremely long-lasting. Initially the base cost that you pay is higher than what you would pay for a traditional bulb. But an LED bulb will last almost forever. While a standard bulb will not give you more than 750 hours of light, an LED bulb can last for anything from 60,000-100,000 hours. This is a great advantage. Once you have fixed Led lamps in your home, you will not have to bother about replacing them for a minimum of 20 years. With advantages as distinct as these, there isn’t much more than needs to be said. Now you just need to go and buy yourself a set of LED bulbs.
