Freelancing And Micro Jobs
Total Articles: 7959
The world economy is suffering these days from a continued period of recession. In these odd times, ordinary business models have seen a strong decline in their business models. Newer business models have appeared and have seen strong improvements. One of the new alternate methods of employment have appeared on the horizon in the name of freelancing. In fact, freelancing is not new to the working community. It is a self employed position that many people prefer over jobs specially those people who are skilled in some way personally. A freelancer is not committed to a particular person or organization for a long term. They are actually just committed to the length of particular jobs that they take on as contracts. These workers can also sometimes work in collaboration. The correct English term for people completely working alone would be “Independent Contractor”. There are many fields in which freelancing workers are very popular and quite common in the world. Some of these fields include journalism, editing, proofreading, copywriting, translating and various other micro jobs.
If we talk about various global trends, we find that in North America almost half of the freelancers are involved with various kinds of writing work. The second most popular field for freelancing is the designing field. The method of freelance working has gradually changed over time. In some industries, contracts are signed prior to the start of work. The general method of work still is to keep a record of work and ask for payment deposits from the employers. These deposits are usually released once a particular job is completed. There are also many methods of deciding the required payment. These methods include fixed charges as well as hourly charges for the job.
If we talk about the general global trend, we find that the trend of fixed payments is getting popular as it is very difficult to keep track of hours which can also be agreed upon by an employer. Usually the total payment for a freelance job is divided into suitable divisions generally called milestones. There are still some negative trends among people regarding freelancing. These negative points include that employer payments are not guaranteed as well as it is hard to get good quality work consistently.
Freelance work is very common among people belonging to fields of fine arts. These people usually like to work on their own ideas and only seek a publisher or producer when they have completed and produced an idea. They make sure that they have the copyrights of their produced work and only allow other people to use their work with certain conditions. Some artists can also be hired for work, in this case the produced idea or work solely belongs to the employer and the artist is only compensated with his or her asked payment for the job.
Micro working is also now quite common as freelancing tasks. It refers to the method of dividing a job into its simplest components and then using freelancers to perform singular activities of a desired work or project. Most office jobs can easily be divided into a set of micro jobs that can be assigned to various people for quick and efficient completion.
