7 Organic Link Tips For Seo Copywriting

1. Billboard Strategy
Long copy performs better on search engines, but when creating content you have to cater to the speed readers as well as those who will absorb every word you type. That means applying the billboard theory when crafting content.
When you are driving down the highway on a long trip, you see many billboards trying to attract your attention. They need to draw your eye and relay the information quickly. The call to action needs to be compelling enough to get you to detour from your final destination, at least for a short time.
Use color, bold, and italics to attract the eye of the speed reader who is skimming your content on their way through. Images that convey the main message of the content with detailed descriptions will also help you attract the speed reader.
Perhaps the reader will be intrigued enough to stop his race through search results, or maybe not. If they don't, at least make sure they understand the purpose of the content and they get the answers they need.
2. Make a Promise
When crafting headlines, you want to make a promise to your readers. Tell them that ...
... you will answer their questions, that you will convey secrets or that you will give them step-by-step instructions on how to complete a certain task. Many people don't like to write bold headlines similar to tabloids because they feel it demeans their content.
Don't emulate the tabloids so much as understand why their headlines are so powerful. What is it that attracts people against their better nature? Then see how you can use this type of strategy for your title without feeling like you need to take a shower afterwards.
3. Deliver on Your Promise
After you have made a promise to your readers in the headline, make sure you deliver on that promise in the body of the content. Many marketers don't know how to follow through once they have created a compelling headline. Preparation for writing content that delivers helps to make sure you aren't making false promises to your readers.
Creating outlines and mind maps can help with this preparation. It will show you where gaps are and where you may need to support the information you provide. Don't think that your market has to take your word for it when you offer facts. Support your theories with case studies, white papers, or links to other authoritative sites.
If you are afraid that these links will draw attention away from your site, then you should review your site to make sure it is valuable. If you create compelling content that serves the needs of your readers then there is no reason why the reader shouldn't return after following a support link.
4. Language is Power
SEO copywriting is advertising, and advertising relies on the power of language. Advertising relies heavily on images and content to convey its message, online copy should do the same thing. Remember the power of words and use the ones you know will attract the reader's attention offline for online content.
Words such as "free," "quality," "buy now" and "limited time" work offline; try them online with your readers. Also remember the power of emotion and inspiring emotion in your readers. Emotional content such as joy, amusement, pleasure and inspiration not only convert the readers that land on your pages, but will also compel them to share that content with others.
5. Images Compel
Don't forget images when crafting content that will be shared. Don't just add photos; try to instill variety when adding images. Remember to use video, graphics, charts, infographics, drawings and clip art. Determine what type of image would best suit the content you are creating and utilize them. Multiple images are preferable when creating content, especially content that is 1,000 words or more.
The rule of thumb is to have a minimum of one image for every 500 words. Make sure you include alt tags and good descriptions when crafting images. Provide information so that people to share your images and give you the credit you deserve.
6. Sub-Headings Divide
Adding sub-headings will help break up the text and make it easier to scan. People will know where the information they are looking for is located. They may read that first, but then they will return to the rest of your content if you offer quality in each section.
Don't put in too many sub-headings as they will only look like a tactic for SEO. Don't add too few sub-headings, for that will leave too much text in between. And when should you consider adding sub-headings? If you have at least 400 words of text on a page, use sub-headings to make the content easier to absorb.
7. Use Lists
People love to read lists. When you look at the top ranking content of Google, you will find lists are in the top results. Lists are easy to read, provide a lot of information in a compact way and offers actionable content that makes people want to share them with others.
When creating content, determine if you readers would best be served by offering it as a list. If it does, then make the list informative with plenty of visuals and supporting information.
