Sparklers have become an ever-growing trend in wedding photography, adding a touch of magic and enchantment to any picture and becoming the focal point of your wedding. Of course, capturing beautiful pictures requires a bit of planning and forethought, and you'll need to discuss your plans with your photographer in advance to make sure they're ready. Here are some tips gathered from professional photographers that you can use to make your wedding amazing.
Does Your Venue Allow Sparklers?
The absolute first step you need to make before browsing sparklers for sale is making sure your venue actually allows sparklers. Because premium wedding sparklers are virtually smokeless and ashless, most venues will allow them, particularly now that sparklers have become so popular. Still, it's important to ask ahead of time, especially because the venue may just let you know the best place to take your pictures.
Notify Your Photographer
Let your photographer know you plan to use wedding sparklers so they will bring the right equipment to get the perfect shot. Depending on the shot you're going after, whether you want the picture to show writing in sparklers or a beautiful send-off as you walk through a tunnel of sparklers, make sure you discuss this with your photographer!
Choose the Right Sparklers!
Not all sparklers are going to work well in photography. Choose only premium wedding sparklers designed for these events, not the sort you use at the 4th of July. Wedding sparklers should be metal-based, not generic versions made with wood or bamboo, which cause a lot of smoke and ruin a great picture.
Photographers also prefer you get 20-inch or 36-inch sparklers, which have a longer burn time of up to 4 and a half minutes. This gives your photographer enough time to get a bunch of great pictures. 20-inch sparklers will burn for about 2 minutes, while the 36-inch style burns the longest.
Get Everything in Order
Appoint someone to get everything in order. It won't help to have everyone lighting their sparklers at different times, which means half of your sparklers will be burnt out before you even begin your exit. The best way to make sure sparklers are lit all at once is using a barbeque lighter, not matches, because of time concerns and possible wind. Once two sparklers have been lit, use these to ignite the others to speed up the process.
Don't Rush It!
If you're using the sparklers during your grand exit, resist the urge to run or jog through it. Walk slowly, because your photographer will already have their shutter speed set low to capture the sparklers perfectly.
Finally, don't forget to have a safe way to dispose of the sparklers once everyone is done. Keep buckets of sand nearby so guests can stick in their sparklers on the way out for a no-mess solution.
