Total Articles: 29
Golf is a tough sport if you want to excel in it. It takes a lot of discipline not only in the execution, but also in the mind. This article is going to focus on the top 5 most common golfing mistakes.
Mistake #1: Exaggerated Twist
A lot of amateur golfers have a notion that the more they can twist back their backswing, the more distance they can make the ball travel. The truth is, if your aim is to gain more distance, then you should practice to find the right posture which allows you to do a more fluid swing. A good fluid swing will ensure that your force delivered through the golf club to the ball is at optimum. If you exaggerate your backswing, then your posture will move out of the ideal plane. When this happens, you will have to do a lot of compensation on the downswing. This will result to a less than optimum ball contact.
Mistake #2: Putting Line
Dealing with the putter is one of the most challenging aspects of golf. The secret in getting better with a putter is through practicing your ability to visualize the ball going into the hole.
One of the most common mistakes of amateur golfers is analyzing the 'potential' trajectory or route from the hole to the ball. A lot of experts would consider such practice as a mistake. Experts would advice to do the opposite, which means that you must visualize the route from the ball towards the hole.
Mistake #3: Swing Focused
A lot of amateurs spend a lot of money and time trying to better their golf swing. They focus on a lot of items such as the finish is lacking, swing plane is inconsistent or backswing is not straight to say the least. However, a lot of golf swing mistakes could be solved by focusing on the items that truly matter.
Focus on the grip. You should practice positioning your hand to acquire the perfect golf grip for you. The truth is the grip is a big factor in a golf swing.
Focus on the clubface. Position yourself accordingly to the ball, and then start positioning your club. Do not do the opposite in which you position your club first and adjust your legs to position.
Focus on the Stance: You must find the right stance for you. Make sure it is not too straight, nor too curved. To help you with this endeavor, make use of a back mirror and compare it to the ideal stance posture.
Mistake #4: Acceleration Problem
A lot of amateurs make a common mistake of decelerating the swing, as if they are scooping the ball. The right way of doing it is to accelerate through the ball. Furthermore, make sure you are aiming under the ball.
Mistake #5: Legs In Short Game
A lot of amateurs tend to think that moving their legs in a short swing is ok. This is a mistake. In short game, all the movements should be done by the upper body. Your legs should be acting as if they are dead.
By knowing the top 5 golfing mistakes, you will be well on your way to improving your golf game. Make sure to to get out to the driving range and putting green to put these tips to good use. As with anything in life, practice makes perfect.
