PHP programming language is a very flexible coding language that offers numerous convenient features that makes web app development faster and easier, but at times it leads to haphazard and unsystematic programming. The flexibility and conveniences of PHP makes it a fulfilling experience, but while including files and codes form different other sources in to the PHP code, it gets messy and unmanageable. It is an excellent tool for experienced programmers, but could get little tricky for the inexperienced ones.

PHP programming language is an ever evolving platform. It is an open source development framework and is supported by a wide community of enthusiast programmers who are constantly contributing to the enhancement of the language itself.

There are a number of PHP development frameworks in the market which enables the development team to do more with the programming language. Development frameworks makes coding for PHP more manageable and PHP programmers can take complete advantage of PHP development by making use of a convenient development framework.

A framework is a structure that developers choose to build their application. It determines the structure of the application and facilitates it to connect with many different API's. A proficient PHP framework enables developers to develop PHP application faster, efficiently and assist in building stable applications thereby reducing the amount of repetitive coding for PHP programmers.

Frameworks provide scaffolding features that allows the development team to build faster and cleaner web applications.

They provide toolsets for both the UI components and the database access.

Note: Always use the latest stable version of a framework.

Here are few aspects of a proficient PHP framework:

MVC Architecture: The framework should make use of Model View Controller (MVC) architecture. Some of the best frameworks also provide libraries, plug-ins, helpers, and extensions to assist developers. It would be smart and efficient to employ a framework that has at least two of these options.

Database Support: It is one of the most crucial aspects of every PHP development framework. You need decide your framework depending on the database you are going to use for your web application.

Developer Community & Documentation: The framework should be supported by a strong community, not just in terms of size but also in terms of activity and usefulness. Even if it's a small community, you should be able to get ample support from the community.
A PHP framework should also have good documentation. It should be comprehensive and up-to-date.

Below, I have mentioned a list of some of the most popular and commonly used PHP frameworks.

CakePHP: CakePHP is a rapid development framework for PHP web application development. It’s the foundational structure for programmers to create web applications. The framework itself is developed using PHP programming language. It is also supported by an active developer’s team and community who in turn bring great value to the project.

Symfony: Symfony framework speeds up the creation and maintenance of the PHP web application. It addresses the repetitive coding tasks with better convenient features and control.

CodeIgniter: It is a PHP framework that facilitates minimal footprint; it is built to specifically address the need of PHP coders for a simple and elegant toolkit that creates full-featured web applications easily and in a small span of time.

Zend Framework: It is an open source framework for developing web applications and services using PHP 5.3+. Zend 2 uses 100% object-oriented code and uses most of the new features of PHP 5.3, such as namespaces, lambda functions, late static binding, and closures.

Yii Framework: Yii comes with numerous rich features such as: MVC, I18N/L10N, DAO/ActiveRecord, authentication, caching and role-based access control, scaffolding, testing, etc. It significantly reduces the development time.

Kohana: It’s an elegant HMVC (Hierarchical model–view–controller) PHP-5 framework that offers a rich set of components for building web apps

FuelPHP: It’s a simple, flexible and community driven PHP 5.3+ framework, which is built on the best features of other PHP frameworks.

A proficient PHP-CakePHP web Developer can help businesses by understanding their specific requirements as well as providing solutions that meets their needs and satisfying customers’ requirements. They can provide the right platform to assist them in promoting their products and services to wide group of customers in the least possible time.
