How To Get Started With Drupal 7 Administration
The person who is installing Drupal 7 becomes the default administrator in Drupal 7. Thus he is automatically given all the privileges that are required for managing the content, adding plugins, extension and primarily administering the site. It is hence essential that you give the job of installing Drupal 7 to a person who is a high-level developer or whom you can trust. Later you can always have more admins who would have lesser but important access to the site.
Things To Look Out For In Drupal 7 Administration
Checking on Site’s Status: At the very beginning, right after installation, check on what’s available and what’s not. There would be several things that will come with the red background and these are things which need immediate attention. To check the site’s status report, go to Reports>Status report at the top of the administration toolbar. In the Status Report, you might also find a note which says that ‘Cron has not run’. This will come with a note to run Cron manually. Cron.php is a script that is regularly required for the site to function properly.
Manage the User’s on the Admin Panel: Drupal gives you the option to add more than one user in the admin panel. To do so, you will have to go to the People page via Administer> People>Permissions. On this page, you can set the number of admins you want for your Drupal site as well as set provisions for users to apply for administrative powers.
Configuring the Drupal Site: There are several things that can be configured in your Drupal 7 site and this can be done by going to the Site Information Page (Administer>Configuration>System>Site-Information). Here you can change the name of the site, e-mail address and many such things. You can also customize the appearance of the site by going to the Appearance page on the Admin panel (Administer > Appearance). Here you can install new themes, edit themes or even create new custom themes.
Adding More Modules To The Drupal Site: Drupal 7 fortunately comes with several built-in modules. All they need from the administrator is to be enabled. However, in Drupal 7 you can add more modules and add to the functionality of your website. The module you decide to install need to be community-contributed modules. To add more modules to your Drupal 7 CMS, you will have to go to Administer > Modules.
Posting Content: To post content on your website, Drupal 7 offers two options – ‘Articles’ and ‘Basic Page’. While the former can be used to post frequent content, the Basic Page can be used to create more static pages.
