Today I want to talk a little bit about sales letters. You've probably read tons of sales letters during your lifetime, even if you're not aware of it.
Have you ever gotten junk mail and you open it up and there is this seven or eight page letter and for some reason you read every word?
Well, my dear friend you just experienced the power of a well written sales letter. The Internet, especially the marketing side of it is driven by sales letters.
If you can gain the skill of writing good sales letters you can sell almost anything in the world of marketing. But how will you know how to write good copy as it's called in the industry if you first don't learn what to do?
Let me give you the three most important parts of any sales letter, these will take you a long way in developing your own sales letters.
1) headlines
2) list of major benefits
3) a strong PS
Headlines are important because they draw your reader in, without a good headline no one will read the rest of your sales letter. So, obviously, it is very important to have a quality headline.
Customers don't buy because ...
... they need something, they buy because they want what you have and the only way to show them that they want your product is to list all of the major benefits.
You can do this by making sure you list what's in it for the customer. Don't get caught up trying to talk about yourself or the product too much, and I know that sounds counterintuitive, but it's not.
Focus on the customer and what the product can do to change their lives in some way.
Finally, every good sales letter needs a strong closing usually called a PS. Humans are a curious bunch and we all do a lot of things the same way. One of the things almost all humans do when they receive a letter is to scan down to read the PS. So in your sales letter there are basically two things that we can guarantee your potential customer will read.
That of course will be the headline and the PS. You should use your PS to restate the offer and list a major benefit for the customer. It is also important here to urge the customer to take action now. Studies show that it becomes harder to make the sale after the customer leaves the site, obviously!
Well, there you have it, those are the three most important factors when creating your sales letter.
Now, get out there and start writing!
