Candy is the collective term used to denote any kind of confectionery or sweet treat derived from sugar or chocolate, as the origin of the word comes from old French, meaning ‘cane sugar’. It is predominantly popular among children, even so among teenagers; however they also serve as a gift item to present to at certain occasions. At most weddings or even at bar mitzvahs, it has now become customary that a pack of well made chocolates or candy gift baskets may be considered as a suitable gift too. At weddings, including the dessert and the candy buffet tables, there’s always plenty of candy all around. Along with that, the happy couple often also receive a number of candy gifts and candy gift baskets. It is mostly enjoyed by the younger members of the family, as it mainly comprises of colour candies to candy bars. However often some people gift others some better grade Swiss chocolates or something familiar which is not available in the daily market. These boxes of Swiss candy are generally acquired as they are imported from other countries, as candy in bulk.

... Sometimes the family organising the wedding, prepares for small gift packets to be given away to the guests as they leave after attending the wedding. These little gift packets comprise of a small gift item and candy gifts. It is also customary that around the dessert table of the buffet, there is a small stack of candy treats, mostly for the young kids and teenagers to munch on. Favourites among the candy treats required are caramel apple pops, fruit tarts, toffees, jellybean candies, lollipops, sweet mints and other various treats as one may prefer.

Now on the guest side, where the issue is that a gift is to be presented, candy treats are also common. Initially people gifted a very rare box of collection of chocolates or a small gift item combined with an appropriate candy gift box. However, with time, the concept of a candy gift basket came into existence. A candy gift basket comprised of an average little basket, properly decorated and coloured. The inside would be wrapped accordingly, and the gift items would be kept them. The gift items ranging from different types and colours of candy treats, maybe even a card wishing them of the occasion, and furthermore things. Then the basket would be covered by a wonderful wrap, and finally maybe a bow would be tied on top of it, giving it a beautiful look.

Gifting candy gift baskets is indeed a proper way to attend a party. However, if the one being gifted to, is a close relative, then it’s always more advisable to gift something more personal, and sweet. For instance, if the wedding is of one’s cousin brother/sister, it’s always nice to gift them an album full of memorable pictures of the family. But if the occasion is the birthday party of a five-year-old, candy gifts and candy treat baskets are undoubtedly the best gift options.
