Bad breath is one of the most embarrassing social taboos a person can have. Bad breath, also technically known as halitosis, is caused by bacteria overgrowth on the tongue surface.

FACT

Obviously, some food causes bad breath. When a person eats garlic, onions and most of all coffee, it is one of the top causes of you having bad breath. If a person eats large amounts of garlic and onion, it can actually stay up to a couple of days and you cannot do anything about it. The only thing that you can do is to avoid these kinds of foods. However, if you cannot really get rid of those, at least limiting the intake might help.

CAUSES

Obviously, when a person doesn’t practice good dental hygiene and doesn’t get routine checkups, plaques in the teeth build up. Foods stick to the plaque and it tends to decay the teeth. Once tooth decay occurs bad breath will surely come in. It is just the same as when you place something in the refrigerator and leave it there for more than a month or more, what happens to the smell of the food? Does it still smell good? Does it still look pleasant? Your answer will defend ...
... the case.

Morning breath it is just common to wake up with morning breath, this is because of the saliva that dries up over night when you are still sleeping. If you wish to lessen your “morning bad breath,” you may want to brush your teeth first and chew some gum before going to bed as it increases the working power of your saliva glands.

Bad breath AKA Halitosis

It is indeed a mystery between bad breath and halitosis, many people ask whether the two are the same or not. Asking a Chandler dentist, here’s his statement: some people think that halitosis is the highest degree of bad breath in which the main reason is because of poor diet while bad breath is just the normal situation wherein if you have poor hygiene the same will occur. Actually, bad breath is just the same as halitosis. Yes, that is true, bad breath is the general term of halitosis, for it is most often used as a medical term but to make it clear, there is no difference between the two.

Remedies

The solution to this problem does not always depend on how your Chandler dentist can do it for you. You can always do a checkup on your own to find out if you can help yourself regarding this matter. There are three tests which you might want to try to do to find out.

1. Lick test you may want to lick the tip of your tongue on the wrist and smell it after 5 seconds. How was it?

2. Scrap test you may want to get a small metal spoon or cotton and stick it into the back of your tongue. How was it?

3. Dental floss check you may want to get a dental floss and floss is between the back of your teeth and then smell the floss. How was it?

If you find it different than the usual, you may want to do some of the basic home remedies that Chandler dentists advise.

1. Brush your teeth after every meal.

2. Drink plenty of water to get rid of dry mouth

3. Encourage yourself to stop smoking

4. Dental floss might help a lot

5. Have a routine checkup with your dentist to avoid having worse problems

Basically, maintaining good oral hygiene is the best practice to reduce this problem. Ask your Chandler dentist about the many solutions that you can do about it!
