Ask An Arizona Dentist - When Should You Get Braces?
Cosmetic Dentistry has been one of the amazing ways that has brought great smiles to many people. Generally, it is used to refer to dental work that aims to improve the appearance of a person’s teeth, gums or bite. Dentists nowadays refer to themselves as cosmetic dentists regardless of their specific education, specialties, trainings, and experiences in the field.
There are a lot of cosmetic dentistry procedures - teeth whitening, dental bridges, veneers, gum lift, bite reclamation and the most common of all, the braces. So now, the question is who are the people entitled or should really get braces? Do they have an age bracket for it? And when should you get braces?
Dental braces have changed and transformed in the past recent years, and there are a lot of misconceptions about it. There is no age limit for dental braces. Initially people thought that it was just for teenagers. However, studies have shown that many adults nowadays are also getting braces. In this case, your Arizona dentist says that as long as your teeth and gums are healthy, you can go and have the benefits of straightened teeth. You have to ...
... remember that braces cannot be installed as soon as you want it. It is important for you to have a healthy gums and jaw bones - that’s the main reason why you have to undergo an x ray before getting braces. This is to make sure that when they put pressure onto your gums it will not cause any unfavorable complications.
Patients with orthodontic problems can always benefit at any age. Although they say that the placement of braces should be between 10-14 years of age, because this is the time when the head and the mouth are still growing and teeth will be more able to be straightened. Having braces at an early age can be traumatic to many children and so the parent has to discuss this to their kids first and explain that it’s not going to be easy and the pain will last for nearly a week or two.
Once you have these braces, the recovery is really not easy. You will never feel the pain of it as soon as it has been attached to your teeth. The pain and discomfort will occur after a day or two. You might experience swelling because of the brackets rubbing on your gums and lips and it is not pleasant. And as we have stated above, the pain will last for about a week or two because the tissues have to renew but after that, everything will go back to normal. You may have to rinse your mouth with warm water with salt every time or use a mouthwash and you can also take painkillers to ease the pain.
You will be required to wear your braces until your gums and your teeth are aligned and straightened. But this does not end here because your dentist will require you to have retainers after the braces come off. The type of retainers you will be using will depend on your case. There are cases where orthodontists recommend a permanent retainer to ensure that your teeth will not move at all; again, it is a case to case basis.
Your Arizona Dentist has the responsibility to give you the best teeth and mouth care. It may bring too much pain at first, but the convenience and the after effects of the same are effectively and wonderfully amazing! Ask your dentist now, consultation is free so go on and have your braces done!
