In 2003, Ghosts of the Abyss by James Cameron was released as the first full-length 3-D IMAX feature filmed with the Reality Camera System. This camera system used the latest HD video cameras, not film, and was built for Cameron by Vince Pace, to his specifications. The same camera system was used to film Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003), Aliens of the DeepIMAX (2005), and The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D (2005). Thus started the deep impact of 3D movies after its fall in the earlier phase. And it is no surprise that it peaked again with James Cameron’s Avatar, which is touted as biggest blockbuster of the decade.

Below is a list of the latest 3d movies. For those who are hooked to this genre and for those wondering what the hullabaloo is all about. Perhaps the latter category can check out a few of them and be converts. As an avid 3D buff, I’d certainly hope so. Here I am mentioning only the latest and already released movies. Not the upcoming ones, though that’s an exciting world to look forward to in itself. Most of these movies are available in Blue Ray discs.

There are so many in the line waiting to be released that 2011 and 2012 is going to a busy year for the 3d movie buffs. I just wonder how one will watch Final Destination 5 in 3D. Feel the BOOM and duck the ‘flying car’ as it whizzes past your ear? Scary! At the same time, can’t wait to watch it, exciting as well. Till then one can make do with all that’s already there. So happy viewing everybody, I am off to watch mine.
