Introduction:
Global warming is the gradual increase in the average temperatures of the atmosphere as well as the oceans of the earth. The increase in temperatures is seriously affecting the world’s climate system. Studies by scientists believe that the concentration of greenhouse gases is the major cause the global warming. The greenhouse gases are thought to have a greenhouse effect in which the gases the gases absorbs the infrared radiation from the sun; thus leading to the heating or warming of the lower atmosphere. The infrared radiation in a normal situation are reflected back by the earth’s surface; therefore reducing the temperatures of the atmosphere. The major greenhouses gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone and to some extent the clouds. Human activities over the first years have increased the amount greenhouses gases such as carbon dioxide, methane CFCs and nitrous oxide.
The release of these greenhouse gases as a result of the industrial revolution has lead to the creation of manmade global warming. Global warming has dire effects on the general climate. Global warming has not ...
... only lead to increased temperatures but has also led to other effects on the climate like changes in the season patterns, glacier retreat, prolonged droughts, floods and rising of ocean and sea waters. Many believe that these effects could have more serious impacts in future, therefore, the need to mitigate the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The countries can reduce the carbon dioxide emission and other greenhouse gases by increasing energy efficiency, use of renewable energy, preventing deforestation and encouraging reforestation.
However, there has been a debate both politically and the scientific field regarding the controversy about whether the causes of global warming. Some scientist attached to the traditional argument that man's activities cause the global warming that that has increased the production of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. They argue that the concentration of the methane and carbon dioxide have increased 1750 with a percentage of about 148 and 36 percent. There is a belief that these rates are the highest during the last 800,000 years. These scientists argue that the increase in the temperature recorded by scientists over the last few decades is a result of the increased emission of these gases.
On the other hand, some other scientists feel that the issue of global warming is a hoax created for the purpose of generating money. These scientists believe that the arguments about global warming are false representation while others are facts out of the context. They argue that there is no relationship between the increased temperature and the increase in carbon dioxide emissions. Through the 1940 and 1970s when there was increased industrialization, there was a general cooling during the period. Thus; they argue that if the global warming is the creation of man. There could be no cooling during the period in which industries used coals leading to the production of carbon fumes and other greenhouse effect gases that are supposed to increase the global temperatures.
These debates are on different platforms where each group convinces its audience that their opinion is the factual stand about the global warming. However, those claiming that human activities cause global warming have received more support from people and also increased media covering.
My position:
I concur with the other scientists who believe that the global warming is a hoax, and the man-made carbon dioxide cannon lead to global warming.
The debate has its background back in1970s when scientist came to a consensus that there was a general cooling of the world. They predicted climatic crisis that could arise as a result of the cooling period. They proposed that the crisis could be avoided by increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Initially, the environmental scientists thought that increasing the amount of carbon dioxide would increase the global warming. Therefore, this is the time the term global warming came into existence. The scientists thought that they could solve the problem of cooling by increasing the amount of the greenhouse gasses.
However, the issue of global warming was politicized. The politicians transformed the global warming into a political campaign. In 1974, the BBC reported the impending disasters that might affect the American economy. The scientist claimed that the cooling temperature would lead to disasters that had not been. Thatcher politicized the issue of the global warming to evade the oil crisis at the time, and she wanted to use the idea of global warming to garner support to start producing energy. Nuclear energy does not produce carbon dioxide, therefore, would be a good source of energy that was environment-friendly. Scientist were funded by the government and led to the formation of climate change movement that received funding from the government. The research on global warming received huge funds for their activities. Computer models were developed to predict weather or all the models focused on the fact that the man-made carbon dioxide was the main cause of the global warming.
These computer models were used by scientists to make whether predictions even for a hundred years to come meaning that there could be no one to judge the model in future. Most of the research done to support the theory of global warming was money oriented and not to provide the facts that could help solve the problem of global warming. Genuine reports were manipulated to favor global warming, and the media were in the frontline to spread the gospel of global warming. Soon, the global warming campaign became an international movement that had its unknown agenda. According to those against the global warming movement, those campaigning for global warming had the intention of preventing the developing countries from developing. These countries cannot mine their coal or oil just in the name of saving and protecting our environment while dying of dire poverty.
Some scientists argue that man-made carbon dioxide does not lead to global warming, and the entire theory is a fiction. Essentially, the carbon dioxide makes a very small percentage of the atmosphere, and the carbon dioxide that is released by human activities is every small, therefore, can have hardly an effect on the climate. Other living things from some bacteria to plants and the higher animals produce quite a huge volume of carbon dioxide as compared to that produced by man Volcanoes are big contributors to the volumes of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. However, the largest contributors of carbon dioxide are the oceans that contain huge volumes of dissolved carbon dioxide, and these oceans release the gas after heating up.
Scientists are using isotopes to determine ancient temperatures. Though initially, scientist thought that the world temperatures increased with increase in carbon dioxide. The experiments on the ice indicate that there is no relationship between the temperatures and volume of carbon. Similarly, the current warming started many decades ago. In the last 150 years, the world climate has been on the rise but the major rise was witnessed between before 1940 even before the cars and industries came into extensive use. Therefore, the anti-global warming campaign scientists believe that the man-made carbon has no significant contribution to the global warming.
To support their stand they have come up with a proposal of the possible cause of the global warming. The sun is the highest contributor to the rising temperatures. The position of the dark spots of the sun determines the amount of radiation it emanates. The sun also produces cosmic, and the cosmic rays form the clouds after combination with water vapor. When the sun is more active and solar wind is strong, the cosmic rays pass through and no clouds are formed. The clouds are good absorbers of heat in cloud seasons; the environment is cooler as compared to when there are no clouds. Similarly, scientists can prove that when the cosmic rays increase the temperatures decreases.
Conclusion:
Global warming is the gradual increase in the average temperatures of the atmosphere as well as the oceans of the earth. Many people believe that the green gases like the carbon dioxide cause the global warming. However, this theory is a fiction and was coined for both political and economical gain. We should direct our blame on the sun as the cause of the global warming and not to suspect our actions.
