Are you prepared for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?
If trekking the popular
Annapurna Base Camp Trek is on your mind and you already feel the butterflies in your stomach, wait…..
We’ve got you something to make it easier for you!
These are some of the tips from people who have already trekked the dangerous mountain and have enjoyed every minute of their journey. Some of these are from people who regularly organize treks every year and know every detail like the back of their hand!
These tips will ensure that you do not do any mistakes and have an enjoyable journey up and down the trek.
Top tips to prepare for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek
1. Prioritize physical training before the Trek
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is not a very technical or a complex trek but it does require excellent physical training to be able to complete the trek successfully or enjoy it. It is advised to start the physical training at least three months in advance from the day you plan to begin the trek.
2. Pay attention to minute ...
... details of packing essentials
Every gear you pack for a trek has an integral role to play that cannot be substituted at all. The most important gear for a trekker is the right trekking shoes considering the fact that they have to work for several hours at a stretch and for a number of days together. Invest in good trekking shoes and the right trekking gear.
3. Count additional nights for acclimatization
Trekking the Annapurna Base Camp Trek or the ABC Trek can be an exhausting, tiring and a trying experience. It is suggested not to plan an over-packed itinerary. Plan a few extra nights for acclimatization. This will keep you fresher, safer, more relaxed thus making the entire trek an enjoyable experience.
4. Keep yourself hydrated
While any seasoned trekker will know that, it can be a very helpful trick for a newbie. When trekking the mountains, keeping oneself hydrated is the key to stay stronger and fresher for longer. The body gets easily dehydrated at high altitudes than it gets at the sea level.
5. Slow and steady wins the race
A long trek like the ABC Trek requires one to be slow and steady to be able to enjoy it. Trekking and a faster pace and no time for acclimatization are two lethal decisions to take while at a trek. There are a number of researches that suggest spending more time at high altitudes to let the body acclimatize to the low levels of oxygen.
6. Avoid the sun as much as possible
Even though it might sound ironical but it is suggested to stay away from sun as much as possible. As you go high up on the mountains, the UV protection levels go down making the body suffer from the harmful radiations or the UV rays of the sun. Staying away from the sun also prevents the trekkers against dehydration.
7. Pack some extra calories for yourself
Even though there is enough food and even more of their variety in the mountains, packing a few snacks that can give some extra calories is always a good idea since you are going to burn a lot of them as well. You can pack granola bars, protein bars, peanut butter or simply some favorite sweets to replenish that lost energy instantly.
One of the most important tips to remember before taking up the Annapurna Base Camp or the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is to prepare oneself mentally for the lifestyle at the mountains, the different climatic conditions there and everything else that is expected at the trek.
