Sliding doors are suitable for both residential and commercial buildings. You can install them in your patio, balcony or even in the living room. They let in sufficient light and when open provide excellent ventilation. If your house is one with great outdoors, then installing sliding doors will let you enjoy a glorious view.
Sliding doors are great in terms of functionality as well. They allow for better mobility in and out of the property and add to the interior appeal of the house. If you are planning to get a set of sliding doors for your house, here is a list of all that you will need to get it fixed.
Sliding doors move on tracks. The best material would be aluminium. It is a tough and durable material. It does not rot or rust and is great if you want to fit soundproof glasses. Aluminium doors prices are quite affordable and maintenance requirements are minimum as compared to any other material. Make sure that track length is double the width of the door opening. If the space for doors to open is insufficient then you can use multiple track lines. You can use double brackets to install aluminium tracks side by side.
You can use wall or soffit brackets for sliding doors. The number of brackets you need to buy will depend on the length of the doors.
Hangers and Fixing Plates
You will need 2 hanger pieces per door. Fixing plates will be required to install the hangers to the doors. Aluminium sliding doors are fitted using top or side fixing plates.
The movement of the sliding doors is regulated using stops. You can have a stop inside the track. It will stop the door movement by hitting the body of the hanger. You can also use a wall stop, which will stop the movement by hitting the door. Many times people use bolts instead of stops. It is advisable that you don’t use them because they tend to damage the bearing of the hanger. Use a clip stop to keep the door in open or closed position.
Bottom Guide
The functionality of the doors depends on the bottom guide. A bottom guide ensures smooth and safe operation of sliding doors. With bottom guide, you doors will not swing and move straight on the tracks. The guides are installed on the floor or wall. You can even get them installed underneath the leaf. The bottom guide moves in the groove or guide channel, which is fixed into the groove.
Like any other door, you will need accessories to finish up the design. End clips and caps are the most important accessories for sliding doors. They prevent lateral movement of the tracks and add style to the doors. You can use double tung handle to slide the doors. You will also need to fit a good locking system. Get a patented sliding lock with key to ensure the safety of your house. You can also use a soft close the ensure smooth and effortless movement of sliding doors.
