The benefits of using advanced analytics tool cannot be overemphasized. These tools are important in driving changes and improving business practices. There are organizations which use traditional analytical tools to for data analysis and forecasting future behavior and events. This is the case with the target organization in which I plan to conduct my internship. The organization faces problems particularly those that concern potential changes in strategies. Having sufficient data is not valuable. How an organization uses data generates insights into strategies.
Reporting is the first step to making good business decisions. This is the core of advanced analytics tools. With such tools, it is possible to understand what is taking place and also look forward to what is about to take place. By timely delivering relevant insights to executives, end-users, and even applications, these solutions can increase the understanding of different aspects of the business that often results in smarter decisions, better outcomes, relevant information and actionable insights (Peffers et al., 2007).This requires knowledge of statistics and other analytics techniques and tools. Information gathered from such technology-driven processes for data analysis, and reporting is significant to business managers, corporate executives and other end users who desire to make more informed business decisions.
With the overflow of data available to organizations, businesses are turning to analytics solutions to derive meaning from the large chunks of data to aid in decision-making. Such organizations require capabilities to optimize their efforts through analysis and forecast using available data. Looking at different analytic options can be a significant task. However, these analytic tools can be selected based on their capabilities. SAS is one of the commonly used software for business reporting. The software offers a huge array of statistical functions. SAS for reporting is a set of applications that allows users to organize and present data. The software suite is developed by SAS Institute for data management, multivariate analyses, advanced analytics, business intelligence and predictive analytics (Reason & Bradbury, 2001). It allows the user to organize data sets with columns called variables and rows called observations. The suite of software has the capabilities to alter, mine, alter, retrieve and manage data from various sources and carry out the statistical analysis.
SAS has been adopted by organizations for non-technical users as a graphical point-and-click user interface. In order to employ Statistical Analysis System, important data should be in SAS format or an Excel table format. SAS programs have a data step, which manipulates and retrieves and data, usually designing an SAS data set which analyzes the data. Every step has a series of statements that provide instructions to interpret data set or modify data's appearance. The data step comprises of compilation and execution phase. Declarative statements are executed in the compilation phase. Syntax Errors are also identified and processed at this point. SAS is easy to use and has good functional graphical capabilities.
Methodology: Action research
The researcher will adopt Action research methodology for the purpose of the study. Action research is a participatory research method where the researcher is geared towards planning and carrying out the research process in real life-world. As a result, research develops out of the convergence of science and practice. In action research, both the researcher and the organization or participants benefit from the process. The process allows the participants to step back cognitively from known routines (Baum et al., 2006).
