Since three children in the town of Fatima, Portugal (Jacinta, age 7, Francisco, 9 and Lucia, 10) had announced for months that Our Lady would work a miracle on October 13, 1917, between 70,000 and 100,000 people gathered there to see the predicted miracle. The Miracle of the Sun, as it is now known, stunned the gathered multitude, converted such hardened unbelievers as atheists and Freemasons, and confirmed thousands in their Catholic Faith.

What was the Miracle of the Sun that so stunned and enraptured the huge audience at Fatima on that fall day almost a century ago? A brief examination of the miracle and its significance goes a long way in revealing the truth about what really happened to the Catholic Church after Vatican II.

Contemporary reports
"[T]hough bright as any sun they had ever seen, they could look straight at [it] without blinking, and with a unique and delightful satisfaction," wrote William Thomas Walsh in his 1954 book, Our Lady of Fatima, which he considered his lifework. "This lasted but a moment. While they gazed, the huge ball began to "dance." That was the word all the beholders applied ...
... to it. Now it was whirling rapidly like a gigantic fire-wheel. After doing this for some time, it stopped. Then it rotated again, with dizzy, sickening speed. Finally there appeared on the rim a border of crimson, which flung across the sky, as from a hellish vortex, blood-red streamers of flame ... Madly gyrating in this manner three times, the fiery orb seemed to tremble, to shudder, and then to plunge precipitately, in a mighty zigzag, toward the crowd."

Walsh goes on to recount, as so many others did, that a "fearful cry broke from the lips of thousands of terrified persons as they fell upon their knees, thinking the end of the world had come. Some said that the air became warmer at that instant; they would not have been surprised if everything about them had burst into flames, enveloping and consuming them." Walsh's account is only one of literally thousands, including those of eyewitnesses, which are amazingly congruent in portraying the incident, which many consider the greatest miracle in Catholic history outside the Resurrection.

The Interpretation of the Message of Fatima
During the miracle, the sun appeared to be speeding toward the earth, which is a major reason that the assembled multitudes thought the end of the world had come. Fatima was an apocalyptic sign, and a significant one to say the least. It was a sign that the end was near, that the events preceding the culmination of world history and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ were to begin. Once again, in the strongest possible way, the message was given that people must amend their lives before the end of the world really does come. Based on some of these considerations, many have concluded that Our Lady of Fatima is the woman clothed with the sun described in the very first verse of Apocalypse 12: "And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars." (Apocalypse 12:1)

As the Fatima witnesses also reported that Our Lady was made all of light, and was more brilliant than the sun, the evidence is very strong that Our Lady of Fatima was, in fact, the woman clothed with the sun prophesied in the Apocalypse. In fact, there is a stunning confirmation that Our Lady’s appearance at Fatima was the fulfillment of this Apocalypse prophecy, and it comes not just from a secular source, but an anti-clerical one, at that.

Did unbelievers believe?
The Masonic daily newspaper, O Seculo, stunningly confirmed, without even knowing it, that Our Lady was the woman clothed with the sun as described in the foregoing Scripture in the Apocalypse. The paper's account of the miraculous events at Fatima was published on October 15 under a multiline headline:

How the sun danced in broad daylight at Fatima. The apparitions of the Virgin.
The sign of Heaven. Thousands declare it a miracle. War and peace.

First of all, recall that this newspaper is Masonic and anti-clerical. Then, note that the headline itself refers to the sign of Heaven. This should sound familiar to students of Scripture, as the first verse of Apocalypse 12 continues: "And a great sign appeared in Heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars." Not even Catholics in 1917 had connected Fatima with the woman clothed with the sun, so it is impossible for the anti-clericals at O Seculo to have known this. The headline, therefore, is a confirmation, by an anti-Catholic and public source, that Our Lady of Fatima and the miracle of October 13, 1917 were indeed the prophesied sign from Apocalypse 12.

Further study needed
You have seen that Our Lady of Fatima is the woman clothed with the sun of Apocalypse 12, which serves to further confirm the authenticity of the Catholic Faith and Sacred Scripture. Yet you have now just scratched the surface, and a great deal of prayerful study is ahead if you want to get at the truth of Fatima for our world today. It is entirely bound up with what has happened to the Catholic Church since Vatican II.

When you know that Fatima was the sign prophesied in Apocalypse 12, you will realize that we are, in fact, now in the Apocalyptic era. We are hurtling toward the last days of the world, an event that you need not fear in any wise as long as you are abiding in the truth. Time is precious, so use it well.

This information is captured and discussed in great detail in our book, The Truth about What Really Happened to the Catholic Church after Vatican II, and in our new DVD: The Third Secret of Fatima, the Impostor Sr. Lucia, and the End of the World.
