An affidavit, from the legal perspective, is a written statement that is voluntarily prepared by an individual and under an oath – as spelled by someone with the legal authority to do the same. There are quite a few types of affidavits that are popular, and used for various legal reasons. Know about some common types.

Small Estate Affidavit

When an immediate family member or a spouse dies intestate, someone needs to act on behalf of that individual for wrapping up every property matter and ensure asset distribution to people who are entitled to the same. A small estate affidavit, similar to other affidavits, equals to the affidavit signer who testifies under oath regarding the statements made in relation to the value of the estate.

Heirship affidavit

It is also used once a close family member or a spouse dies, and the assets are distributed to appropriate people. This Affidavit document is executed by someone who attests to the fact that the dead person left behind some descendants and is listing those people by name as well as type of relationship to the deceased person.

Residence Affidavit

An Affidavit of Residence is also important if you wish to verify a home. Some common situations include the need to prove your own home address for tax or business reasons or to prove that your kid belongs to a specific school district. It is necessary to notify the death of a person to a relevant court, bank, business or some other entity when it is impractical or impossible to obtain and show a Death Certificate.
