Getting To The Top Of Google Is An Art Form

Without exception, everyone who runs a business for profit wants their website at the top of the first page of Google.
Why?
For the simple reason that about 50% of all clicks go to the top three websites listed on Google. That’s one consideration. However, here is another: only 10% of visitors ever click on to page 2 of Google. That means that if you are not on page 1 you have lost 90% of your potential traffic just like that.
However, getting to the top of Google is an art in itself. Most people know it is called SEO – Search Engine Optimisation – but many don’t really know what that means.
What it means is making your website “Google friendly”. There are certain things that Google wants to see on your website and if they are not there, or if there are things Google doesn’t want to see, then you are not going to get ranked and that is that.
Some years ago Google’s algorithms were nowhere near as sophisticated as they are now. Let’s say you were an accountant in Maidstone. The more times you could get “accountant” and “Maidstone” on to a page on your website the higher Google would rank you. This led to the ridiculous situation where the website would have Accountant Maidstone, Accountant IN Maidstone, Maidstone accountant, ACCOUNTANTS MAIDSTONE, Maidstone Accountancy, and much more scattered throughout the page, perhaps 20 or 30 or even more times. The result was that the page was complete gibberish, but Google loved you because its’ spiders saw what they wanted to and you got ranked accordingly.
Even Google came to realise that was ludicrous, and today they want to see on your page what people want to read. They want to see something that reads naturally and contains the information people want to see. However, it is not quite so simple as that, which is why an SEO consultant came to be something that today is as much a profession as an electrician, a solicitor, or market gardener.
SEO is hard work. It is demanding and time consuming and in order to keep your website at the top you have to continually invest money and time to make sure of your rankings. Not only that, every now and again Google decides to change its’ algorithms so that what worked yesterday doesn’t today. When this happens, websites can go from the top of page 1 to page 17 overnight. Google has wiped out whole businesses at a stroke on many occasions.
Whatever sort of business you run, you should consider using the services of an SEO outsourcing company. These companies live and breathe SEO because it is what they do for a living, and they can take all that pain off your shoulders. You may even operate a web design or web development company where SEO is one of the services that you provide to your clients, and you should still outsource it.
In fact, for some agency owners SEO is often their weakest point. While it is part of a package they sell to their clients it is something that they feel they “have” to offer rather than want to offer. And of course, when it comes to carrying out the SEO work they don’t always have the skills required, which means that the client is dissatisfied and they may lose his work completely. Indeed, it is not unusual to see an agency offering SEO services and when you Google them you find that they are on page 12. If they can’t get their own business at the top of Google what chance of getting their clients there?
If you do offer SEO services to your clients and you are not totally comfortable with it then an SEO outsourcing company is the answer. Not only will you save time, you will also save yourself the stress, and you will usually find that it works out cheaper than doing it yourself. This means that when you take on a new client you simply pass on the SEO to the outsourcer, and that’s it. They take care of the SEO and provide you with the results which you can pass on to your client.
It’s really just like a builder who outsources the electrical work on a contract to an electrician. The phrase “horses for courses” springs to mind.
