Baldness is usually excessive loss of hair from your scalps. The most common cause of baldness is Hereditary hair loss with the age. Some people let their hair loss run its course with unhidden while others cover it up with hairstyles, hats or headscarves. Both are seen to avoid treatment for hair loss while others prefer to undergo one of the treatments to stop further hair loss, regain the hair and its growth.
Before you undertake any Hair Loss Treatment, consult your doctor about the cause of your hair loss along with prevention options or treatment.
Hair loss can emerge in a number of divergent ways based on different causes. It either appears suddenly or gradually, either affects just your scalp or your entire body depending on a variety of factors and causes. While some types of hair loss are temporary, others are permanent.
Symptoms of the hair loss may include:
A gradual thinning on the crown portion of the head is a common type of hair loss that affects both men and women with their age. In the case men, hair often starts to recede from the forehead leaving a line that takes after the letter ‘M’. Unlike Men, women typically don’t lose hair on the forehead but gain a widening part in their hairline.
Some people experience some smooth, big coin-sized bald spots that are called circular or patchy bald spots. This type of hair loss generally affects just the scalp, but sometimes it is found to occur in eyebrows or beards. Sometimes, you may feel itchy or painful in your skin before the hair begins falling.
A physical or emotional stress that can shock your hair to loosen that can be identified as sudden loosening of hair. In such cases, handfuls of hair may come out while washing or combing your hair or even after a gentle pulling. This type of hair loss generally causes overall hair thinning but not the bald patches.
Sometimes medications or medical treatments like taking antidepressants or chemotherapy for cancer can cause the full body hair loss but the hair normally grows back.
Patches on the scalp is a sign of ringworm accompanied by swelling, redness, broken hair, and occasionally the oozing.
Consult your doctor if you or your child is distressed by the excessive and unusual hair loss and want to follow treatment. Seek advice from your doctor if you notice a dramatic hair loss or a patchy hair loss or an unusual hair loss while washing or combing your or your child's hair. Dramatic hair loss sometimes means an underlying medication that is in need of treatment.
It is normally a fact a person loses 50 to 100 strands of hair every day. Generally, it doesn't cause an apparent thinning of hair as the new hair starts growing at the same time. Hair loss mainly occurs when the cycle of hair shedding and regrowth is disrupted or when the hair follicles are shattered and replaced with the scarred tissues.
Hair loss is basically related to one or more of the following causes:
The most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary that is called male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness. It generally appears gradually with the age or in some predictable patterns like a receding hairline or bald patches in men and gradual thinning hair in women.
A variety of conditions such as hormonal changes due to thyroid problems, menopause, pregnancy, and childbirth can cause a temporary or permanent hair loss. Medical conditions like alopecia areata causes patchy hair loss or scalp infections that include ringworm and trichotillomania, a hair-pulling disorder.
Taking some supplements or certain medicines for the cure of depression state, high blood pressure, heart problems, arthritis, cancer, and gout can trigger the hair loss. Because of undergoing the radiation therapy to the head, the hair may not grow back the same as it was before.
Due to a physical or emotional stress for a long period can cause a general thinning of hair or a sudden hair loss. These types of hair loss are temporary. Moreover, a dramatic weight loss can result in handfuls of hair loss
Excessive hairstyles that tug your hair tight, such as cornrows or pigtails can cause traction alopecia. Hot oil hair treatments can cause inflammation of hair follicles leading to hair loss. If the scarring appears, the hair loss can be permanent.
As most baldness (male-pattern baldness and female-pattern baldness) is due to hereditary, this type of hair loss is not preventable. But you can avoid hair fall problem by following preventive steps as below:
