We all have individual characteristics that make us unique. The best weddings will be able to capture these special qualities and convey them through beautiful decorations, exciting activities, traditional rituals, delicious food and an all round amazing celebration.

Whether it is vibrant colours used to match an energetic personality, the bride or groom's favourite cuisine, or patterns, materials and jewelry that truly convey personal style, the wedding is a time when couple’s can express their individuality however they desire.

With this is mind, it is no wonder that Indian weddings are famous around the world for being wildly extravagant and truly special moments. As a culture with so much history, diversity and overall personality, it is only right that this important time is filled with so much excitement and amusement.

A rich history behind it

India has historically been home to a variety of different wedding types. Depending on what region of India you are from and your religious background, the rituals and various conventions of the wedding ceremony can vary massively.

Examples of the ancient Indian wedding systems include Swayamvara and Gandharva. The Swayamvara system has become famous in popular culture through being featured in various films and shows. The Gandharva wedding process in comparison is considered by some as simpler, but not less charming!

Regardless of the type, all Indian weddings will draw from a  rich history of tradition and ritual as well as the individual personalities of those getting married.

In Western countries, it is also common for various European wedding trends, music, food or general rituals to be integrated into the scene to create a mixture of different cultures.
This might be less common in conservative families and more common in second and third generation Indian marriages.

Whatever the case, an Indian wedding will involve plenty of excitement, dance, delicious food, vibrant colours and historic rituals that will keep all guests entertained.

The modern Indian wedding

The world we live in today is also about diversity and contrast. While it is important to retain your culture and history and represent the values of your parents and grandparents through important rituals and traditions, it is also important to evolve with the times. This can mean factoring in some contemporary elements into your wedding.

Having said this, tradition and history will always be an important part of every Indian wedding. From the ceremony to the attire and everything in between, each wedding will draw from a deep history and culture. Because of this, you will need to seek the help of those who know what they are doing!

This could simply mean getting your grandmother to project manage this special occasion, or employing your parents, cousins, uncles and aunties to lend their knowledge and experience, but it could also mean employing a trusted wedding organiser.

The perfect decorations are a must have

With the sheer amount that needs to be prepared, it's impossible to do everything yourself. If you can’t employ members of your family to help with the burden, it’s essential that you hire the right wedding decorators London to do a good job.

When so much effort is being put into traditional dresses and jewelry, you don't want to be let down by a poorly decorated room that doesn’t do you or your guests any justice.

Try asking around for recommendations and browsing the previous work of companies to see whether they will be able to cater to your specific needs. It is also essential to meet with the coordinators to see whether they understand your vision. After all, this is a very personal and special time that cannot be organised over the phone.
