After every four years, everyone around the globe has automatically turned toward the television screen. Since the Olympics, the World Cup will starts, as the world events like these have all their eyes viewing friendly competition between the nations.

However, it is operating under such a big highlight, these worldwide events have been greatly guarded by the physical security only to make sure about no any participants or any attendees are harmed by any cybercriminals or hackers. But when we are talking about this then what about the digital security of the participants? In 2018, many of the aspects of these events automatically have become digitized which is very great for the event organizers and also for the viewers, but it is also good for all the cybercriminals. Indeed, reports are already circulating that hackers or cybercriminals are only targeting the attendees of this FIFA World Cup 2018.

Why did these Events happen?
Some of the cultural values which are generally placed in these international games are genuinely the reason whom cybercriminals or hackers target them. When something more is valued, then more people are willing to make the sacrifices for it. And the Cybercriminals and hackers know that, and also hope to capitalize on it.

In cases like the FIFA World Cup, fans might be pleasing to expose themselves to a more aggressive environment to feel like a part of the event. And the same goes for the companies which are directly related with the sporting events, as they can fall victims to the attacks just as any can individuals do.

Various Types of Attacks
The innocent tourists and fans are both at home might have to deal with the threats which result in their involvement in these events. The fact is that the internet access has been increased all over the world; many tourists are susceptible to scoundrel access-point attacks in the public places. Attackers can also use these points only to produce credentials and also gain access to a victim’s accounts and device. Sometimes, Malware can also be located within the ATMs, and the attackers are ready to rip off the tourists withdrawing currency from their banks. And as for followers at their home, many of the spoofing and waterhole attacks have been positively designed around these events to attract fans to visit the malicious sites or might open any emails which appear to be related to the games.

Though, for nation-state attacks, a lot of the groundwork is done before these global events even start. The McAfee Labs team will saw them firsthand in the period which is leading up to the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. It is one of the nation-state hacker envisaged to be a provider to the Olympics and also sent out weaponized mail directly to the organizations of interest which contained the malware developed before the event started.

Some Suggestions
The purpose behind the threat is financial gain or interruption, and all these attacks do have only one thing in common, they impact the overall emotion of security at these events and also take away from what is thought to feel like a worldwide sports celebration.

Thus, when fans wish to be a part of a big event like the World Cup, they will no longer focus on which jersey they are wearing on that day. And they also have to concern about their bank accounts which are being robbed or might become extracted. Beyond individual suggestion, generally, the nation-state attacks take place at these events can raise their head in a revolting way, as they can deteriorate international relations much more than a strong sporting challenge ever could happen.

Beyond of this, we all must identify that our digital and physical lives are meet at a very fast pace, and now we have a very large digital attack surface which is not yet properly protected the users. And with both the nation-state and cybercriminals state actors have been showing such a sensitive interest in the global cultural events, and now the cyber security must become a necessary part of organizing any of the events. By only this, countries host a safe and successful sporting event for everyone in the world.
